Sample Pie Chart Question
The Pie Charts below show the comparison of energy production in France for 1995 and 2005.

Model Answer
The two pie charts compare the information regarding energy production in the country France for the years 1995 and 2005. The energy production has been categorized into five different categories namely Gas, Coal, Petro, Nuclear and other. In an overview, the share of Gas, Coal, Nuclear and Other increased in energy production while the share of Petro decreased in the same from 1995 to 2005.
In 1995, Coal consisted of the highest share of energy production at about 29.8%. This was followed by Gas at about 29.7 % of total energy production. The share of Petro stands at third place at approximately 29.2 % of total energy production this year. The Nuclear energy production rests at 6.40% of total production in energy sector in France. Lastly, the Other sources of energy production stand at 4.90%.
Considering the year 2005, Coal still shares the highest percentage of 30.9% in energy production. This is again followed by Gas with its increased share of about 30.3% in the energy sector. It is then followed by Petro’s decreased share of about a fifth (19.6%) in the same energy production sector. The Nuclear category’s share in energy production has also increased to 10.10%. Lastly, the Other sources of energy production have also increased their share in production to almost a similar figure of 9.10%.

The introduction in the above example for writing task 1 Pie Chart clearly states that the pie charts are about a comparison of the energy sector’s production in terms of five different categories for the years 1995 and 2005.
The next paragraph which contains the overview tells the trends in all different five categories of Coal, Gas, Petro, Nuclear and Other’s share of energy production between 1995 and 2005.
Then, Paragraph A is a detailed analysis of each category’s share in energy production in the year 1995. It presents a descending order of the various category’s share in energy production in 1995.
Finally, Paragraph B presents a detailed analysis of all five category’s shares in energy production in the year 2005. It again describes a descending order of various categories’ shares in energy production in 2005.

Some tips for writing task 1 Pie Chart
The writing tips for Pie Charts first cover that you should always write and highlight the largest and smallest proportion. If the given illustration has two pie charts in different time periods, then you should highlight the main trends and important changes over these periods. You should at least write 150 words and devote only 20 minutes to this task 1 Pie Chart.
