There are three types of PTE tests: PTE General, PTE Academic and PTE Academic Online. Unlike IELTS, PTE has only three sections: speaking & writing, reading and listening. PTE Academic

PTE Academic is a two-hour computer-based test which contains 20 questions. Talking about the duration of each section, the speaking & writing part takes 54-67 minutes, the reading part takes 29-30 minutes, and the listening part takes 30-43 minutes. The speaking & writing part contains seven questions, the reading part includes five questions, and the listening part contains eight questions.

PTE General

The PTE General exam has only two sections: written and verbal. The written section evaluates writing skills, reading comprehension, and listening skills, while the verbal section includes an interview, which takes place two weeks after the written test. The exam occurs thrice a year in May, June and December.

PTE Academic Online

As the name suggests, candidates can take the exam online from the comfort of their home. The test is made for students who can’t access any test centre. The scoring and format of this test are the same as PTE Academic. The test is accepted for study applications but not for visa purposes.

Candidates must fulfil the PTE eligibility criteria to take the test:

1. Age: Candidates must be at least 16 years old to take the PTE test. The candidates aged between 16 and 17 must have signed consent from their parents.

3. Identification: Another requirement to take the PTE test is having a valid form of identification such as a passport, ID card and driving license.
