The Master of Counselling gives you the opportunity to extend your theoretical grounding and professional skills to work as a counsellor in a variety of settings. You will be trained to identify systematic, effective ways to help clients find simple, acceptable solutions to their current concerns and problems.

The MCouns consists of 240 points of study, taken as a combination of practical and theory courses.

    Academic Requirement

    • Minimum Level of Education Required: To be accepted into this program, applicants must have qualified for one of the following:
      • a degree from Aotearoa New Zealand with either acquired experience in counselling, teaching, nursing, social work, or an equivalent profession, or been deemed suitable for training as a counsellor; or
      • other approved qualifications of an equivalent standard.

    Award Amount: $5,000 - $10,000 towards fees


    Brief Description:

    This scholarship recognises and supports international students with strong academic abilities from India who are beginning their educational journey in New Zealand at Te Whare W?nanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury.


    Value/Benefits:

    • Undergraduate: Contribution to tuition fees of $5,000 paid in the first year of study. 
    • Postgraduate: Contribution to tuition fees of $10,000 paid in the first year of study.1
    • Level of Study: Undergraduate, Postgraduate
    • Closing Date: 15 November 2024 (Semester 1 2025 start) and 30 April 2025 (Semester 2 2025 start)
    • Tenure: One year

    UC Business School Awards

    Confirmed for 2026 and still being processed for S2 2025:

    • $6,000 for master’s programmes
    • $4,000 for the first year of the Bachelor of Commerce (up to $12,000 overall)
