Program Overview

Is it time to take the next step in your computing career? In this postgraduate diploma, you’ll build on the knowledge and skills of your undergraduate degree by concentrating on a specialisation you’re interested in – cybersecurity and networking, software development or data analytics and intelligence. You’ll gain deeper insights into a specific area of ICT while strengthening your leadership and collaboration capabilities.
This programme includes two compulsory courses: Research Methods sets you up for advanced research if you do more postgraduate study, and Applied Project provides a chance to undertake and manage an IT project that expands your work experience.

What you’ll learn:

  • Analyse complex real-world problems using advanced technical and theoretical knowledge, then develop effective digital solutions that deliver the best results. This includes reflecting on your performance and what you and your team can do to improve.
  • Evaluate ever-changing and disruptive ICT environments with critical thinking and interdisciplinary strategies.
  • Critically analyse and develop your professional practice to promote open communication, inclusivity and ethical conduct.

Software Development

Software engineering regularly rates as one of the top jobs in the world. Why? In this field, you can apply your skills in a wide variety of industries and projects. Over time, experienced software developers usually acquire one or more areas of specialisation – something employers often look for to fill higher-level positions. The courses in this specialisation focus on software development strategies and advanced technical skills such as machine learning, the Internet of Things, and web development.

    Unitec - Te P?kenga will be offering an international study grant of up to $4,000 to our international learners in the academic year 2024. Find out if you are eligible for the 2024 international learner study grant and how to apply.

    Terms and Conditions

    The following terms and conditions relating to a grant offered by Te P?kenga – New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology (Te P?kenga). By submitting an application to study, the International Learner (?konga n? t?w?hi) agrees to be bound by these terms and conditions.

    1 The grant is known as the International Learner (?konga n? t?w?hi) Study Grant (“the grant”).
    2 The purpose of the grant is to support ?konga n? t?w?hi commencing full-time study at Te P?kenga in semester 1 and 2 2024 intakes.
    3 Te P?kenga shall award one grant per successful applicant, the value of which is applied based on the payment of fees for the qualification.
    4 For the removal of doubt:
    for multi-year programmes below the postgraduate level, the grant is applied to the fees paid for the first year of study.
    5 Where an ?konga n? t?w?hi fails a course/s and needs to repeat the course/s, no form of study grant, pro-rated or otherwise, will be applied to the additional course/s. Fees will be levied at the full tuition fee applicable for the course/s at the time of enrolment.
    6 Where an ?konga n? t?w?hi is required to put their study on hold after completing one semester or more, the grant continues to be valid for the further study paid for unless a refund or permanent withdrawal is actioned.

    Eligibility

    Applicants for the grant must:

    2. Be a new ?konga n? t?w?hi at Te P?kenga (i.e., not re-enrolling at Te P?kenga) applying for full-time study in semesters 1 and 2 2024 (existing students are covered by fees grandparenting arrangements);

    6. Be enrolling in semesters 1 and 2 of 2024, if a student defers to 2025 for any reason, the study grant is withdrawn.

    ?konga n? t?w?hi are not eligible and cannot receive the grant if:
    1. 1 they are in recipient of another grant, scholarship, award, or other concessions from Te P?kenga or external bodies;
    2. they are likely to be applying for Recognition of Prior Learning or Cross Crediting to reduce the number of credits that are needed for the given qualification;
    3. have permanently moved to studying part-time (including commencing full-time study and then reducing this to part-time). In such a situation, the ?konga n? t?w?hi waives their right to the grant and will be liable for the payment of remaining fees for the semesters enrolled as part-time. Any withdrawal will be subject to individual Te P?kenga business divisions’ admission, enrolment, fees, and refund policies and procedures.

    3. Te P?kenga business divisions have complete discretion in assessing the application of the grant.
    4. The Te P?kenga decision is final and binding, and no further correspondence will be entered into once a decision has been made

    Next steps after application submission

    1 Te P?kenga business divisions will send a letter of offer to the successful applicant:
    Advising of the offer of a place;
    Applying the grant to the ?konga n? t?w?hi fees;
    Setting out the remaining fees to be paid and future study grant applications (if any); and
    The grant must be taken in semesters 1 and 2, 2024. No deferrals will be accepted.
    2 Grants are not transferable between business divisions and campuses of business divisions. Where a transfer occurs, for example, from a campus outside Auckland to a campus in Auckland, an additional fee must be levied to account for the differential in the grant eligible for the location (in Auckland/out of Auckland).
