CELPIP Exam type

Over the last few years, the best general English test for immigration and professional designations in Canada is the CELPIP Test. Candidates take this test to show their proficiency in English language in a range of real-world contexts, including chatting with friends, reading news broadcasts, and interpreting and responding to written materials. There are two different CELPIP exam types available for the CELPIP test.

CELPIP- General Test CELPIP- General LS Test
It tests a person's proficiency in speaking, reading, listening, and writing English. It examines a test taker's proficiency in speaking and listening in English
It is used for applications for permanent residency and professional designations. It is employed in applications for citizenship and professional designation.
It can be finished in one sitting in about 3 hours without a separate speaking session. It can be finished in one sitting in about an hour, without a separate speaking session.
The IRCC has authorised the CELPIP-General test for applications for permanent residency. The IRCC has authorised the CELPIP-LS test for applications for Canadian citizenship.
It is conducted in 16 countries. It is held only in Canada.

CELPIP- General Test

The four components of the CELPIP - General Test are speaking, reading, writing and listening. Each of which can receive a score between 1 and 12. The Canadian Language Benchmark Levels (CBL) are used to grade them.

  1. Listening- In this section of the CELPIP test, there are six practice tasks and 38 questions in total. The listening component lasts 47-55 minutes.
  2. Reading- The time allotted in this component is 55-60 minutes. The four practice tasks include Reading Correspondence, Reading to Apply a Diagram, Reading for Information and Reading for viewpoints.
  3. Writing- This component has a time limit of 53 to 60 minutes. You must write 2 tasks.
  4. Speaking- There are 8 component sections.

CELPIP- General LS Test

Speaking and Listening are the two parts of the CELPIP - General LS Test.

  1. Listening- In this section,there are six practice tasks and 38 questions in total. The listening component lasts 47-55 minutes.
  2. Speaking- Speaking component takes 15-20 minutes to complete. There are 8 Practice tasks to respond to.

CELPIP Exam Fee

There are some selected cities in the world where CELPIP- General Test is conducted. If you are planning to take the test, you have to register for it. The overall cost of the CELPIP-General Test is $280 including taxes. On the other hand, CELPIP - General LS Test which is available only in Canada is priced at $195 with taxes.

Which kind of exam should I take?

CELPIP- General Test

The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Start-up Visa Program, and a number of Provincial Nominee Programs all use the CELPIP-General examination as a single exam for applicants seeking permanent residence status in Canada. The test is ideal for refugees, immigrants, and job seekers.

CELPIP- General LS Test

The CELPIP-General LS exam evaluates a candidate's functional speaking and listening skills. Those who need to exhibit their speaking and listening abilities in order to become Canadian citizens are given this LS test.

Date and Frequency

IELTS test dates are offered upto 4 times in a month making a total of 48 fixed dates in one calender year. The availability of IELTS dates in India may differ for Academic and General IELTS.

Center and Admit Card

The IELTS Exam is offered across more than 50 locations across India. There is no admit card provided for IELTS examination.

Result

IELTS Exam results are released 10 calendar days after the test for the paper based exam and 5-7 calendar days for the computer based test. The Candidate will receive only ONE original Test Report form (TRF).

Score Reporting

A candidate may request up to 5 additional TRFs to be sent to the receiving institutions (universities, professional bodies, etc) within 1 month of taking the IELTS test. TRFs sent by courier will be sent via DHL and students will be charged accordingly. If the receiving institution accepts electronic submission of scores then that can be arranged through the IDP IELTS office free of charge.
