CAEL Exam Type
CAEL test is one of the greatest tools for faithfully mimicking language use in a Canadian academic environment. It includes reading articles, listening attentively to a lecture, answering questions, and writing a brief essay. The CAEL Online test is identical to the CAEL Test administered in testing centers in terms of test format, content, and scoring.
There are two types of CAEL exam:
CAEL – Online
The CAEL Online can be taken from comfort of your own home and is available to be taken from Canada and United States of America.
CAEL – At a Test Centre
This type of CAEL is available to be taken from a test center across international test centers. The CAEL which is available at test centers is computer delivered.
CAEL Course for both exam types
Both the types of CAEL tests assess a student’s abilities in four components namely Speaking, Writing, Listening and Writing. The various components and syllabus is same for both tests and the following structure is followed:
- Speaking: Speaking lasts for 7 to 10 minutes and has 3 tasks.
- Integrated Reading: This component is 35 to 50 minutes long. It has two sections with comprehension questions in each section. The first section has one or two short passages, while the second section has one or two short passages.
- Integrated Listening: This component is 25 to 35 minutes long and has two sections with comprehension type questions.
- Academic unit A: This unit is about 60 to 70 minutes long and has three component sections.
- Academic Unit B: This unit is approximately 40 to 45 minutes long and has three component sections.
CAEL Exam Fee
The CAEL exam fee is about $280 plus taxes. This fee is the Canadian price for taking the exam.
Which test should you take?
You should take CAEL Online or CAEL - at a test center depending on its availability in your country. This availability can be checked from official CAEL website www.cael.ca
CAEL – Online

- You are not able to meet System, Room, ID requirements and Security Checks at your home.
- You don’t have CAEL Online available in your country.

Date and Frequency
IELTS test dates are offered upto 4 times in a month making a total of 48 fixed dates in one calender year. The availability of IELTS dates in India may differ for Academic and General IELTS.
Center and Admit Card
The IELTS Exam is offered across more than 50 locations across India. There is no admit card provided for IELTS examination.
Result
IELTS Exam results are released 10 calendar days after the test for the paper based exam and 5-7 calendar days for the computer based test. The Candidate will receive only ONE original Test Report form (TRF).
Score Reporting
A candidate may request up to 5 additional TRFs to be sent to the receiving institutions (universities, professional bodies, etc) within 1 month of taking the IELTS test. TRFs sent by courier will be sent via DHL and students will be charged accordingly. If the receiving institution accepts electronic submission of scores then that can be arranged through the IDP IELTS office free of charge.
