Student Services

IBU is Ontario’s first independent, not-for-profit university, devoted entirely to excellence in higher education. Students from across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Ontario and Canada, and over time from across the globe, will engage with faculty with all class sizes capped at 30 students. They will benefit from their professors’ subject matter expertise and from a campus environment designed to make out-of-class interactions not only possible but easy, both informally and formally.

At IBU, your academic, personal, and professional successes are important to us. Since university life can be challenging, whether transitioning from high school, the workplace, or into the next semester, we want you to know that we’re with you every step of the way. You will be provided support in dealing with personal, social, and financial issues as well as strategies for receiving better grades.

  • Health and Wellness: If you are experiencing health issues and do not have a family doctor, staff in Enrolment Services will provide you with the name of a local walk-in medical clinic. Enrolment Services can also suggest vision care, dental care, pharmacy, and counselling options available in the IBU neighbourhood.
  • Medical and Mental Wellness: We offer the GuardMe Student Support Program as our Mental Health Counselling Program. This program provides students with real-time access to counsellors through the TELUS Health Student Support app. Since this service is unlimited and free for our students as part of our partnership with GuardMe, we do not intend to add any additional fees to IBU’s fee structure for mental health services.
  • Counselling: No matter if you are dealing with a new school, a new career, a new city or maybe you are just feeling overwhelmed by things happening generally in your life. Having someone to connect with and talk to is always the most important thing. At IBU there is always a helping hand and someone who will listen. Students can reach out to their Enrollment Officers who will guide them and direct them to the right resources whenever needed.
  • AccessAbility: Academic Accommodation supports students with diagnosed disabilities through the development of Academic Accommodation Plans that the student can share with faculty and staff. These can include, for example, allocation of longer times for tests or requests for a note taker. Course materials follow AODA standards and are developed and available in digital form in the Learning Management System for easier use with accessibility tools.
  • Academic Advising and Support: One of your professors will be assigned to you as your academic advisor. Your academic advisor can give you advice about your courses, program and graduation requirements, counsel you regarding study habits, tutor you as necessary and also provide information regarding future career options. You may meet with your academic advisor as often as necessary
