Program Overview

Unlock your full potential with the Bachelor of Business (BBus). Be equipped with the tools to help organisations become more efficient, profitable and sustainable, so they can adapt and thrive in changing times.

Why study a BBus?

Ranked in the top 1% of business schools globally, Waikato is proud to offer the best undergraduate business degree in New Zealand.

Our Bachelor of Business (BBus) takes you beyond the textbook to tackle practical, real-world challenges facing companies, government, and community organisations. This hands-on learning approach will provide invaluable insights to supercharge your future career.

This degree is underpinned by academic excellence, and you'll be taught by passionate teachers who are also highly regarded business consultants.

But what really sets the BBus apart is the focus on versatile skills. Today's employers want graduates who can lead people, build successful teams, communicate ideas, think creatively, solve problems, analyse data to find trends, plan and deliver projects, and much more.

And that's exactly what this degree delivers to set you up for success. It provides a strong foundation of knowledge across core business areas such as strategy, economics, and data analytics, along with advanced expertise in your major/minor subjects.

We've designed the Bachelor of Business to offer students more flexibility and choices so that your papers align closely to your career interests.

You will gain the insights and technical skills to understand customer needs and changing market forces, assess financial charts, create new products and services, implement digital technologies to enhance productivity, and strategise for the future.

Finance

Compound your opportunities with a rewarding career in finance. It's all about managing assets and investments to achieve the best return relative to risk, and generating wealth for individuals and businesses.

Why study Finance?

Studying Finance at Waikato University will prepare you for highly paid positions in the financial and business sectors anywhere in the world.

Finance is focused on managing money, investments, banking and credit, the share, bond and commodity markets, and financial analysis and decision making.

You'll gain a broad understanding of how the world's financial markets operate, and develop skills for financial analysis and decision-making.

For example, you could end up running an investment fund, working for the World Bank, or structuring the finance of a major project for a corporation.

Students will learn how to interpret financial data, forecast risk and returns, conduct shares and bond valuations, and understand mergers and acquisitions. And you'll be able to make sound investment decisions for your own personal financial security.

More advanced papers cover topics such as corporate finance, portfolio selection, capital markets, and the governance of financial institutions.

Practical assignments will prepare you for exactly what you'll encounter in your financial career. For example, students get to work on a funds simulation project using real data, and prepare a report on a publicly listed New Zealand or Australian company, while playing the role of a trainee investment analyst.
