Diploma of Cybersecurity

Our new pathway program in cybersecurity offers you the opportunity to step into the rapidly evolving digital world of cybersecurity.

Upon completion of the diploma, you will enter the second year of the Bachelor of Cybersecurity at La Trobe University.

Students will build a highly specialised technical skillset as you learn about the history of hacking, build your coding expertise, and access industry-based projects and mentoring opportunities with major corporations.

La Trobe's Bachelor of Cybersecurity offers you the opportunity to step into the rapidly evolving digital world of cybersecurity.

You'll build a highly specialised technical skillset as you learn about the history of hacking, build your coding expertise, and access industry-based projects and mentoring opportunities with major corporations.

You'll also have the opportunity to complement your industry-focused learning with a choice of advanced electives in IT, business, law, policy and strategic communication.

You'll learn:

  • Cybersecurity fundamentals - Learn the basic principles and best practices of cybersecurity. Understand how it mitigates cyber vulnerabilities and protects confidential information.
  • Ethical hacking and defence - Gain evaluation techniques to assess the security of network configuration and apply these skills to defend against network-based threats.
  • Programming and cyber algorithms - Explore the widely used Python programming language and learn how algorithms are used to solve cybersecurity challenges.
  • Network engineering - Study the architecture of computer networks and the internet, and examine protocols and services used in the defence of online information.
  • Cyber governance and risk management - Learn the frameworks for cybersecurity governance and risk mitigation based on your emerging understanding of business strategy and risk appetite.

    Early Acceptance Grant - International Students

    Early Acceptance Grant Amount $2000

    Who is it for? Future undergraduates, Future postgraduate coursework, International Student
    How is it paid? The grant amount will be deducted from the second semester tuition fees.
    Background International students applying for an undergraduate or postgraduate course to study at La Trobe University can be rewarded a bonus grant for completing their admission process early. Recipients will automatically be eligible to receive an Early Acceptance Grant of $2,000.
    Are you eligible to apply?

    To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, applicants must:

    • Be a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand and be applying to study in Summer semester 2025/Semester 1 2026.
    • Not be a humanitarian or other permanent visa holder.
    • Be a full fee-paying student (non-sponsored).
    • Be applying for direct entry into one of the eligible courses. Other students are not eligible.
    • Commence their studies at any of the La Trobe University Victorian campuses or Sydney Campus in 2025/6.
    • Meet the University's English language requirements and all the other conditions stated on the Offer Letter, accept the offer, and pay the required deposit mentioned on the offer. 
    • Students who receive a Conditional Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) will be considered eligible for the grant.
    • This grant is not available to La Trobe College Australia (LTCA) packaged students (ELICOS, Foundation, and Diploma).
    • All students who accept up until the deadline, including those who have already accepted, will be eligible for this grant. 

     

    How to apply

    • Students will automatically be considered when applying for an approved course. Students may apply directly through StudyLink.
    • The Early Acceptance Grant can be combined with the La Trobe High Achiever Scholarship to form a discount on first-year tuition fees. This is subject to all conditions being met for both offers.
    • The Early Acceptance Grant cannot be combined with any other scholarships.

    La Trobe High Achiever Scholarship

    High Achiever Scholarship Amount Up to 25% reduction in course fees

    Who is it for? Future undergraduates, Future postgraduate coursework, International Student
    How is it paid? This scholarship will be applied as a discount to tuition fees for each subject studied for the entire duration of the course. Recipients are required to meet all conditions (if applicable) outlined in the Letter of Offer and accept the offer by paying the required deposit before the scholarship can be applied. Please note: Failure to meet condition(s) and pay the acceptance deposit on time may result in the withdrawal of the scholarship.
    Background

    La Trobe University values academic excellence. High-achieving international students considering applying for an undergraduate or postgraduate course will be automatically considered for this scholarship.The La Trobe High Achiever Scholarship rewards high achieving International students. This scholarship is worth between 15% to 25% off the annual tuition fees for the duration of studies.

    Are you eligible to apply?

    To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, applicants must:

    • Be a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand and be applying to start an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program.
    • Be a new International student applying for 2024-2026 intakes.
    • Be a full fee-paying student (Non-sponsored).
    • Apply to a program in the List of eligible courses.
    • Not available to humanitarian or other permanent visa holders

     

    Recipients of the scholarship shall be selected by the University based on their:

    Recipient obligations
    Maintain a full-time enrolment in one of the La Trobe University campuses in Australia and satisfactory academic progress during the studies.

     

    How to apply

    • Applicants will be automatically considered for the scholarship after submitting an application for an Approved course.
    • Percentage awarded is based on the WAM and overall eligibility of the course. The scholarship will be included in the Letter of Offer.
    • The scholarship will be reflected on the student's statement of account after the census-date once the student has accepted the offer, paid the required deposit mentioned on the offer letter and enrolled into their course.
    • *A WAM is an average mark that takes into account the credit point value of the subjects that you have completed. It is based on the actual mark of all subjects completed in your course at any given time.
