Program Overview

The University of Newcastle College of International Education Foundation Studies Program can be completed in either two or three trimesters and is designed to prepare international students for university study, both academically and socially. It provides access to over a hundred undergraduate degrees offered by the University of Newcastle. This streamed Foundation program will also help to increase your English and academic skills, making sure you are undergraduate study ready.

Society continues to face new challenges in food production. Demand for sustainable and healthy choices is growing. As new foods, trends and challenges emerge, we must continue to assess how they impact health. This specialty area of study requires people with a passion for innovative thinking.

Food and beverage processing is Australia's largest manufacturing industry. This dynamic industry offers great opportunities for food and nutrition scientists to work in different areas. Examples include product development, food regulation, nutrition, quality assurance, food safety and research.

You could work with fresh or processed foods, developing new products, or analysing existing ones. Or you could work on ensuring that foods are nutritionally balanced, safe to eat, cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and desirable to buy.

    University of Newcastle College of International Education Scholarships

    CIE Program Scholarships
    We offer a range of scholarships towards the cost of our program tuition fees. These normally represent 10-25% of the total program fee. Our scholarships are awarded automatically and do not require a separate application. The exact amount awarded will depend on an applicant’s particular background, for example, the grades achieved in high school.

    Kaplan Family Bursary
    Students with a sibling who also enrols with The University of Newcastle College of International Education will be eligible for the Kaplan Family Bursary. The bursary provides 10% off the tuition fee of the second sibling to accept the offer and commence studies.

    Progression Scholarships*
    Africa, ASEAN, South Asia & Onshore Excellence Scholarships

    CIE from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka and all 54 nations in Africa are now eligible for the Excellence Scholarship once they complete their CIE program and progress to their chosen degree at the University. Students from any nationality who are studying onshore at CIE and remain onshore when they progress to the degree will be eligible for the Onshore Excellence Scholarship. These scholarships provide a fee reduction of $10,000 per year – that’s worth up to $50,000!

    International Excellence Scholarship (Information Technology and Computer Science)
    The scholarship is valued at $15,000 for each year of study (up to $60,000) under full-time study load.

    Eligible programs for this scholarship are:

    • Bachelor of Data Science/Bachelor of Computer Science
    • Bachelor of Data Science/Bachelor of Mathematics
    • Bachelor of Information Technology
    • Bachelor of Information Technology/Bachelor of Business

    • Master of Data Science
    • Master of Information Technology

    International Excellence Scholarship (Management, Accounting and Finance)
    Pre Master’s Program students progressing to any of the following degree programs are eligible for this scholarship is valued at $15,000 for each year of study of the Master’s (up to $30,000).

    • Master of Professional Accounting/Master of Business Administration
    • Master of Business Administration
    • Master of Applied Finance
    • Master of Business Administration/Master of Applied Finance
    • Master of Business Administration/Master of Human Resource Management
    • Master of Business Administration/Master of International Business
    • Master of International Business
    • Master of Business Administration/Master of Marketing.

    Eligibility for all Excellence Scholarships
    In order to be eligible, Foundation Studies students need to achieve an average mark of 67%, Degree Transfer and Degree Transfer Extended students need to achieve an average mark of 50%, and Pre-Master’s students will need to achieve a credit average when progressing into their University degrees.

    *Progression Scholarships are not applicable for the following Health Science programs: B Medical Radiation Science (all three streams), B Oral Health Therapy, B Physiotherapy, B Podiatry, Joint Medical Program.

    Rest of World Scholarship
    Students who do not meet the above eligibility requirements but have met the minimum progression requirements will be eligible for a 10% per year fee reduction for each remaining year of study at the University – currently worth up to $17,565!
