What you'll learn

The Bachelor of Biomedical and Health Sciences is a versatile three-year program that offers an interdisciplinary approach to human biology, health and disease. It provides the core skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the ever-changing health landscape.

As a biomedical and health sciences student, you'll explore core courses in health systems, research, anatomy and physiology. Cross-cultural and First Nations perspectives are embedded in the degree, offering a comprehensive understanding of health and care.

Throughout your studies, you'll develop key professional skills in communication, teamwork, problem-solving and time management – preparing you for diverse career paths in health. You'll also have the opportunity to choose up to two majors and complete a capstone research project.

The Medical Science major offers an in-depth study of human anatomy and physiology. Studying in specialised anatomy labs and using real human specimens, you’ll explore cells, tissues, bone, joints and muscles. Discover all the functions of the body, from respiratory through to cardiovascular, and find out how they function together. Taking a whole-of-lifespan approach, you’ll understand how the body grows and changes from birth to old age.

Your pathology subjects will focus on diseases – their causes, development and effects on the human body. You’ll gain valuable insights into guiding treatments by examining tissues, organs and fluids to identify conditions like infections and cancer. With pharmacology studies, you’ll learn how drugs interact with biological systems and how new medications are developed and tested.

You can also expand your expertise with a second major or elective courses spanning the health and biomedical spectrum. This flexibility is one of the highlights of the Bachelor of Biomedical and Health Sciences degree, allowing you to tailor the course to your interests. And there's no need to decide immediately – you'll have plenty of time to explore and discover what excites you.

In your final year, you’ll complete a Work Integrated Learning placement to gain practical experience in a professional or research setting.
