Foundation Program

Designed specifically for international students, the UWA Foundation program will help students improve their subject knowledge and English language skills. Students can progress to Year 1 of any undergraduate degree at The University of Western Australia (UWA) upon successful completion to the required level.


Leading to: Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours)

The Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) is an inspiring, holistic four-year degree with integrated honours. The innovative curriculum provides an individually designed academic program, focusing on your chosen area of specialisation, coupled with unparalleled access to UWA's leading researchers and research facilities, international exchange programs, professional skills development workshops and a network of talented peers and alumni. Bachelor of Philosophy (Hons) students can study most undergraduate majors on offer at the University, as long as they have met prerequisite requirement for the major.


Major: Linguistics

From sounds and words to how language is used in different societies and cultures, linguistics is the study of language and communication. This major aims to provide the broadest grounding in contemporary linguistics and enables you to specialise in your areas of interest. You’ll have the opportunity to work on a variety of linguistic topics including grammatical descriptions, language variation, change and history, semantics, anthropological linguistics, or the study of Australian Aboriginal languages.

General Admission Requirement

    Academic Requirement

    Minimum Level of Education Required: To be accepted for this program, students must have one of the following:

    • Completion of Senior School Certificate Examination Year 12 from Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) with an average 45% in four academic subjects and a passing grade in mathematics equivalent to Australian Year 10 High School
    • Completion of Year 12 from state boards with an average 50% in four academic subjects and a passing grade in mathematics equivalent to Australian Year 10 High School
    • Completion of Year 11 in CBSE and CISCE Boards with an overall average of 80% in academic subjects and a passing grade in mathematics equivalent to Australian Year 10 High School
    • Completion of Indian School Certificate Year 12 from Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) with an average 45% in four academic subjects and a passing grade in mathematics equivalent to Australian Year 10 High School
