In this combined degree, also known as a double degree, you'll study an extended major from Engineering (Honours), and a major from Arts. You'll graduate with both a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts in just five* years.    


Major: Mining Engineering

Our Mining Engineering major involves you being taught by internationally recognised experts who are across the very latest ideas and new technologies. Through class activities and mine site visits, you’ll get exposure to industry practises and form networks for your future career.

You’ll get the opportunity to work on practical projects, either individually or in a team. You’ll build the technical skills, mining science knowledge, industry connections and hands-on experience to excel in the global resources sector, and to lead the technological transformation and development of the industry.

You’ll gain detailed knowledge of surface mining, underground mining, rock mechanics and mine design with exposure to geology, data science, Python coding, finance, and management.

You’ll get the opportunity to take on a final year research project giving you extensive hands-on experience and the chance to develop and test new ideas. You'll acquire the skills needed to analyse and design the most suitable mining method for a project, the best people and equipment to use, and the most appropriate applications of the latest technologies.

You'll graduate as a skilled engineer with a breadth of experience in the analysis, design and optimisation of complete mining operations (systems), from extraction of the ore to delivery of the final product.

    • Have received an offer for an eligible undergraduate or postgraduate course for 2026 at The University of Western Australia
    • Have achieved an equivalent:
      • Minimum ATAR 85.00; or
      • Minimum WAM 65.00
      • If studying an approved International Academic Pathway (Articulation Program), students must have achieved a WAM equivalent of more than 75.00

    To be eligible to be considered for the scholarship, a candidate must be applying for an eligible undergraduate bachelor degree or Assured Pathway course. The following exclusions apply:

    To be eligible to be considered for the scholarship, a candidate must be applying for an eligible postgraduate degree (by coursework). The following exclusions apply:

    • Doctor of Optometry (91590)
    • UWA Micro-credentials

     

    All Combined Bachelor’s and Combined Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees are considered eligible.

    Whilst most of these degrees are over four years (based on 8 semesters of full time study), the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Commerce; and Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Science; are over five years (based on 10 semesters of full time study) and as such, eligible students will receive up to $60,000* over five years (yearly eligible amounts based on WAM).

    If you’re looking to start studying in 2026, you could receive a fee reduction of up to AUD$20,000* over a four years on eligible undergraduate courses or up to AUD$10,000* over two years on eligible postgraduate courses.
