Global University Systems (GUS) - The University of Law - Birmingham Campus Overview

We are one of the UK's longest-established specialist providers of legal education. Our origins can be traced back to 1876 with the formation of the leading tutorial firm Gibson & Weldon, and later on, with the establishment of The Law Society School of Law. In 1962 the two were amalgamated to establish The College of Law, and in 2012 we were granted our full university title. In 2016 we launched our Business School which has since seen expansion across our campuses and partnerships with leading international institutions such as GISMA Business School in Berlin.

We made history in 2006 by becoming the first independent institution to be granted degree awarding powers by the Privy Council, leading to the development of our professionally-focused Bachelor and Master of Laws degree programmes.

In 2018, we announced our new Hong Kong campus which allows our students to learn in the heart of a leading international commerce and finance hub. Our first classes in Hong Kong took place in September 2019.

We’re now at the heart of education as an acknowledged leader in innovative, professional legal and business teaching for prospective lawyers and business professionals, both in the UK and worldwide.

With a rich heritage and a reputation for leading contemporary teaching practices, we continuously focus on developing the best legal minds and business leaders.

Birmingham Campus:
Birmingham is one of Europe’s most vibrant cities; a great place to live and work, it boasts one of the largest concentrations of law firms and lawyers outside of London.

Our Birmingham campus is located in the city’s Jewellery Quarter, just a short walk away from the centre of the city and other universities – making it a great place to study. The campus has a café, allowing you to grab hot and cold food whilst on the go and, with great transport links and the Birmingham Snow Hill Train Station just round the corner, you’re never far from the rest of the UK.

The campus has an extensive law library that has a vocational and practitioner focus, affording the best tailored support for your studies, whatever your course. You can either study in our comfortable, user-friendly space or access books online when studying from home. Our courses feature regular workshops that enable you to interact with your fellow students and tutors, bringing a collaborative approach to learning.

What sets this campus apart is the availability of real law court room furniture, giving you the chance to practise, get hands on experience and feel a part of the law profession before your career has even begun.

The iconic Birmingham Bullring shopping centre hosts all your favourite brands if you’re looking for some retail therapy, and the city itself is packed with bars, restaurants, theatres and sporting facilities for you to socialise in. You will have many opportunities to get involved in a rich sporting and social life at The University of Law Birmingham and have the option to start a society yourself.

Via our dedicated employability team, work experience opportunities are available to every student to help you boost your CV. The campus is close to leading law firms and chambers and we have strong links to both the business and legal community in the city that you can utilise.

We have reserved accommodation for undergraduate students in Birmingham called Canalside, which is positioned in the heart of the historic city, close to a wide variety of shops, students from other universities and a bustling nightlife.

At Birmingham, our tutors and staff pride themselves on delivering the highest quality of legal and business education and are dedicated to helping you achieve your career ambitions. Our tutors are industry professionals that will teach you the practical skills needed to kick start your career.
