Thompson Rivers University for more than 45 years now has been providing quality and excellent education to its national and international students alike.More than 26,000 students are currently enrolled at Thompson Rivers University, in their William Lake or Kamloops campus, or distance or online courses and programs through open learning. The international students make up about 10% of the student population of which 22% students are from India at TRU.
Thompson Rivers University offers more than 140 on-campus programs and about 60 open learning programs to its national and international students to choose from. The university provides comprehensive, learner-centered and environmentally responsible surroundings to its learners and their communities and also offers the students with co-op and study abroad terms so that they can learn in an open and free environment the skills required for their successful careers ahead.
The University prioritizes academic engagement and has programs that help in the overall development of the students’ skills and intellect. The programs offered are such that they include and promote diversity and intercultural understanding amidst the students of the global communities enrolled at Thompson Rivers.

Admission Requirement
The following requirements must be fulfilled to get admitted to the Thompson Rivers University
- International students are considered on case-by-case basis. There can be some additional requirements, depending on the program you are applying to.
- Students are required to submit their original transcripts from their last attended academic institutions. If they are not in English, then submit the translated copies of the same along with the originals.
- Should provide the certificate issued by the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) that compares educational credentials from other countries to educational standards in Canada.
- Applicants must be 18 years old at the time of the beginning of the course.
English Language Proficiency Requirements
You need to submit your English language proficiency test scores if you are coming from a non-English speaking country. Please refer the following to know the minimum requirements:
- IELTS: Students need to have a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 or above
- TOEFL: A student needs to have an overall minimum score of 88.

Thompson Rivers University is a public university specializing in research established in the year 1970 and located in British Columbia, Canada. TRU has its main campus location in Kamloops, BC as well as a satellite campus located in Williams Lake as well as a distance education centre called TRU-Open Learning. TRU has over 15,000 students study on campus annually, including more than 3,400 international students from 105 countries and another 15,000 study by distance or online through TRU Open Learning. Students have the option of choosing from more than 140 on-campus programs and 60 Open Learning programs in eight faculties and schools.

Scholarships
International students at TRU are eligible to be considered for all merit based awards (scholarships, awards, fellowships, & prizes). These awards are made on the basis of individual achievements such as academic, athletic, artistic or other accomplishments, and financial need is not a factor. To apply for merit based awards, submit an Online Awards Application through your myTRU account by the third Friday of each September. Please note that some awards are restricted by program, year of study, citizenship, and other factors.
Bursaries (based on financial need) are limited to Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents only, as these are either taxpayer supported or locally funded. TRU assumes that international students will arrange their own funding to meet immigration requirements for the issuance and/or renewal of student authorizations and visas, as per IRCC stipulations and understanding that you have adequate financial resources to support yourself and any accompanying family members. If you are an international student, you should explore financial aid programs from your home country to see if you qualify.

Scholarships:
Current scholarships and awards available for international students are:
- International Athletic Scholarships
- Students of outstanding sporting ability who demonstrate athletic excellence by qualifying to one of TRU’s Varsity Teams may be considered for an athletic scholarship.
- Engineering Scholarships
- International students accepted and enrolled in TRU’s two-year Engineering Transfer program will be considered.
- TRU Law International Student Award
- $5,000 per student. Available to all qualified International students who are enrolled in the Juris Doctor Program.
- Jorge Campos Award for Mexican Citizens
- The scholarship is open only to Mexican citizens currently enrolled in a full-time program of studies in Mexico.
- Scholarships for American Students
- US citizens admitted to a TRU undergraduate program of two years or longer are eligible for an automatic scholarship of $2,000 per student.
- Scholarships for Residents of The Bahamas and Caribbean
- Available for students from The Bahamas (or Jamaica if there are no eligible applicants from The Bahamas) entering an undergraduate program in the Faculty of Adventure, Culinary Arts and Tourism.
- International Social Media Ambassador Awards
- A limited number of awards are available for international and Canadian students who are interested in promoting TRU worldwide as a study destination.
International Athletic Scholarships:
- Students of outstanding sporting ability who demonstrate athletic excellence by qualifying to one of TRU’s Varsity Teams may be considered for an athletic scholarship. Scholarship recipients must be full-time academic (not taking ESL) students.
