Program Overview

Africana Studies is a liberal arts program offering a Bachelor of Arts in Africana Studies and a Minor in Africana Studies. This program provides all students with the opportunity to study the history, culture, and lived experiences of people of African descent–on the African continent and throughout the world. Students will study the influence of Africa and people of African descent on the world-at-large, learn interdisciplinary methods to investigate the social construction of race and racism, and practice research and problem-solving skills. The Africana Studies curriculum encourages the development of critical thinking skills while challenging students to explore new ideas, seek new connections, and become actively engaged in the global community.
