English majors are employers most preferred humanities graduates because they learn the skills that are powering the 21st-century professional world (2019 NACE Job Outlook Report). You will develop the creativity, the communication skills, the critical thinking and the collaborative spirit that give our majors success in every major professional field.

What You Will Learn

Embrace the loud and exciting energy that generates awareness of language and culture that is crucial for success in the academic and professional world. The English program at UWF will train you and develop your skills in the arts of writing, critical thinking and argumentation.

You will learn from faculty who value critical inquiry, cultural awareness and intellectual curiosity and who create a welcoming community for those who value the intrinsic and extrinsic rewards of scholarly pursuits.

English majors choose one of two specializations. Liberal Arts students study literature in all its forms and facets, developing intensive critical thinking and writing skills. Writing students explore many forms of the craft, from the creative to the professional, and cultivate the expertise that drives contemporary culture.

Explore the world of literature with a minor in English and enjoy a range of literary works from around the world and throughout history. With a minor in writing, you will develop the additional communication and analytic skills needed to succeed in your career or graduate school.
