Program Overview
Microbiology focuses on the biology of micro-organisms that are unicellular, multicellular or acellular (without cells). This includes microbes like bacteria and fungi, and covers concepts like growth and regulation, and how microbes react with each other and their environments.
We also look at how micro-organisms work collectively to maximise their success, and how we can manipulate them and their behaviour with a view to improving health.

Scholarships
2026/27 scholarships
If you:
- are classified as having an International fee status,
- hold an offer to study on one of our eligible undergraduate courses (excluding Medicine, Dentistry) and
- are domiciled in a South Asian country
You may be eligible for one or more of the following scholarships, depending on whether you meet the specific criteria for each award:
- £3,000 – in the first year only, for University of Dundee Alumni and immediate family members of Alumni
- £6,500 in the first year / £4,000 in subsequent years, or
- £7,500 per year – If you hold AAB at A-Level (or equivalent)
Important: Each scholarship has its own eligibility requirements. Meeting the general conditions does not guarantee you will receive all listed awards.

- £6,500 automatic scholarship for all PG students
