Interested in designing IT products and services that solve real problems? Featuring a year in industry, our course focuses on user-centred design and big data analytics to enhance your employability.

Our BSc (Hons) Information Technology will appeal to highly motivated students who have a strong interest in designing IT products and services that solve real problems and are used by real people to do real work.

  • Choose a degree designed in conjunction with industry and the business world to ensure that you develop the skills employers are seeking
  • Cover the major developments in IT today – from Big Data and the Internet of Things (IoT) to User Experience (UX) and User Centred Design
  • Gain valuable experience on an optional year in industry, supported by our dedicated and highly experienced placement staff
  • Work in design and development teams to deliver an IT product or service that addresses a business problem for a real client, often a local charity
  • Study in our state-of-the-art facilities including our dedicated computing labs and Data Visualisation lab
  • Build your skills using specialist tools which are harnessed by industry worldwide, such as SAS, R, SAS JMP, Watson Analytics, Python and Tableau for data analysis

    Scholarships

    Our scholarships and discounts

    View our available scholarships and discounts for the January 2026, September 2026 and January 2027 intakes. Successful scholarship applicants will be contacted via email to confirm their award.

    Eligibility Criteria: 

    1. You must be a self-funding Overseas fee paying student.
    2. Studying a full-time taught/MRes programme at a UK Derby Campus/Site.
    3. Starting your studies in January 2026, September 2026 or January 2027.
    4. You must successfully meet any conditions set for entry onto the programme. 

    Terms, Conditions and Exclusions:? 

    1. The Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship can be combined with the Full Payment Discount of £1,000 GBP if you meet the criteria for the full payment discount.
    2. The Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship is only for the first year of your studies.
    3. Accelerated programmes and PhD/MPhil Programmes are not eligible for the Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship.
    4. Candidates who are fully sponsored by a third party will not be entitled to the Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship.
    5. If a student meets the eligibility criteria, the Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship will be stated on the CAS letter and deducted from the full tuition fee.
    6. If you are eligible for the Vice Chancellors’ Scholarship and the Alumni discount you will only be offered whichever holds the greater value.
    7. ?If a student meets the eligibility criteria, the Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship will be awarded automatically upon enrolment, no application is required.
    8. Students who qualify for other scholarships such as British Council GREAT Scholarship, Chevening and Commonwealth or any other government scholarship will not be eligible for the for the Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship.
    9. If your circumstances change and you do not meet the eligibility criteria or the terms, conditions and exclusions set out, you will automatically become ineligible for the Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship. 

    ?Please note that all students are required to comply with, and are bound by, the University’s Student Regulations and Procedures, including the Student Code of Conduct. If a student is removed from the course for failing to comply with the Student Regulations and Procedures, they may be required to pay the Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship back in full.

    If you pay your annual tuition fee in full ahead of enrolment, you will benefit from a £1,000 discount. If full payment is received prior to issuing your CAS, we will adjust the remaining fees that you need to show your financial requirements accordingly. Terms and Conditions apply.
