With the Accelerated International Foundation Year*, you’ll gain all the high-quality academic and English language teaching you need for success at Durham University. Once you successfully complete this intensive programme and achieve the required grades, you can progress to the first year of your chosen undergraduate degree.

Who is this programme for?

This programme is for international students aiming to study an undergraduate degree in a humanities or social sciences field at Durham University.

  • Develop the academic and English language skills you need to meet the entry requirements for your chosen degree.
  • Gain a grounding in study skills and terminology as well as practical experience with research methods and critical thinking.
  • Adjust to the UK education system and build a foundation in humanities and social sciences concepts at a university level.

Leading to: Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Archaeology

BA Archaeology offers an extensive overview of world archaeology, with teaching and training in a wide range of social and scientific methods. The diversity of modules on this course will allow you to build subject and geographic specialisms suited to your own interests and career plans.

Modules will provide you with the opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge of archaeology and heritage in different regions, including the UK and Europe, the Atlantic world, the Mediterranean, the West, Southwest and East Asia, North Africa and Egypt.

Advanced skills training, practicals, lab- and field-based options, will help you develop knowledge and expertise in a variety of areas, including fieldwork and post-excavation research, statistical, geographic and scientific analysis, osteology, 3D modelling, and museum and heritage skills.

Drawing on the latest research, and with an exciting combination of field trips, practical work including excavation, as well as great teaching, this course offers you a superlative opportunity to learn about archaeology across the world, from earliest prehistory to the modern day.
