Accelerated International Foundation Year

The Accelerated International Foundation Year* is an intensive, 2 term programme to Durham University.

You can choose from two subject routes:

• Business, Economics, Accounting and Finance
• Humanities and Social Sciences

Whichever route you choose, your programme will comprise of modules designed to equip you for success at Durham. Academic English Skills is taught across both subject routes, with the remainder of your programme being subject-specific modules, so you can progress to the University with confidence.

Who is this programme for?
This programme is for international students aiming to study an undergraduate degree in a business, economics, accounting or finance field at Durham University.

• Develop the academic and English language skills you need to meet the entry requirements for your chosen degree.
• Gain a grounding in study skills and terminology as well as practical experience with research methods and critical thinking.
• Adjust to the UK education system and build a foundation in business concepts at a university level.
• Build a foundation of economics or a foundation in accounting and finance subjects before starting your degree.

When you successfully complete your International Foundation Year and achieve the required grades, you can progress to an undergraduate degrees at Durham City

Leading to: Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Accounting with Placement Year

Accounting is the ideal choice if you have an analytical mind and like solving problems – contrary to popular opinion, you don’t have to be a maths expert to study accounting – communication in both written and verbal form is just as important as crunching numbers. Accountants are trusted business advisors and work in many areas of business.

This single honours degree will immerse you in the study of accounting and business from day one. Offering maximum professional accreditation from some ICAEW, ACCA, ICAS and CIMA examinations, on successful completion you can graduate as a partly exam-qualified accountant, with only work experience and a few final exams to complete to be fully-qualified (subject to optional module choices and to achieving specific grades in certain papers).

The subject pillars build throughout the degree so that you can identify links between modules. The employability theme helps you to understand the connection between work done and employability skills gained.
