Are you interested in shaping the future of the arts and cultural sector? This long-established and forward-thinking MA in Arts, Festival and Cultural Management will allow you to gain a better understanding of the management of cultural organisations and the individual factors that influence the environment in which they function.

The course will appeal to a range of individuals and will qualify you for a broad range of management positions within a wide spectrum of cultural organisations and festivals.

It may interest those already working in the sector who want to gain a formal qualification as well as those with undergraduate degrees, perhaps in arts and humanities subjects, who have not studied management previously and who are looking for a career change. 

The course is delivered both full time and part time with start dates in September and January, and offers the flexibility to develop your skills and knowledge whilst in employment.

Our team’s research has also been published widely - including several books on the subject - and we have written reports for national bodies on a wide variety of subjects. As such, we hold significant and broad knowledge about the sector to share with students.

    Scholarships

    £3,000 scholarship for courses with fees above £12,500

    How much are the scholarship?

    The scholarship is worth £3000 and is granted as a reduction of the tuition fee. It is not possible to use a scholarship as payment towards any deposit required for your programme. The scholarship is payable for one single-year of study, and students cannot reapply in subsequent years.

    Who is eligible to apply?

    Scholarship applications are accepted from applicants who have applied for a course taught on campus at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh on an Undergraduate or taught Postgraduate degree programme. Applicants do not have to have been made an offer or accepted their place at the time of application. Applicants must be self-funding (i.e. not funded by a sponsor), and on a programme with an international tuition fee of more than £12,500 per year.

    When must I apply by?

    • Students starting in September should apply by 31 March before the start of the degree
    • Students starting in January should apply by 31 October before the start of the degree


    How do I apply and how is my application assessed?

    To apply for the QMU International scholarship you must complete this online form. In particular you should complete a supporting statement of between 500 and 1000 words.
    You should include in this statement

    • Your reasons for choosing your degree programme AND how this particular course would be of benefit to you in your future career
    • Your interest in studying at Queen Margaret University, and/or in Scotland
    • Information on any noteworthy academic or professional achievements to-date
    • A description of the positive financial impact that the scholarship would have on you (e.g. you may wish to provide information on your typical income and any financial commitments that you have) 
    • Any other matter which you may consider to be relevant to your application

    NO additional documentation (e.g. CV’s, references or statements) will be considered and should not be sent. Your university application form will not be used as part of the decision making process. The statement will be assessed by a panel and applicants will be notified of a decision after the closing date and the scholarship panel have met.

    Scholarship applications are now closed for those who have applied to study with us in September 2026. 
    We welcome applications from those who have applied to study with us in January 2027. We will communicate decisions as soon as we can after the initial deadline of 31st October 2026.
