Progression from Foundation

The Law pathway subjects prepare students for law degrees at Keele are informed by research and offer a critical approach to legal education in an enriched, inclusive environment, involving a range of professional activities and support. You will be able to go on to train as a solicitor or barrister following graduation, or prepare for a legal career of your choice from a range of options.

The Humanities and Social Sciences subjects are focused on the ways in which we engage with one another as human beings in contexts ranging from the local to the global. The research and teaching at Keele University focuses on the varied dimensions of human experience and on the full range of cultural, economic and social challenges we face in a fast-changing world.

Leading to Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Psychology and Sociology

Our British Psychological Society accredited degree in Psychology and Sociology enables you to explore why humans behave the way they do and the impact of these actions within societies. Alongside a scientific approach to understanding the mind, emotions and behaviour at the individual and societal levels, the programme encourages you to tackle important social issues exploring cultures across the globe and to consider how societies have changed over time.

Psychology and Sociology at Keele allows you to explore the mind and behaviour whilst considering both the advances and challenges of ever changing societies.

Psychology will equip you with a well-rounded education and in addition to studying the principal areas specified by the British Psychological Society (BPS) curriculum, you will have the opportunity to tailor your degree to reflect your career aspirations and interests.

Principle areas of psychology include: biological, cognitive, social and developmental psychology as well as individual differences and historical issues. You will gain fundamental scientific skills in research design, statistics, qualitative and survey methods. With this knowledge, you will learn how to conduct research and critically analyse that of others.

Sociology focuses on the study of cultures, communities and identities and explores how our everyday lives intersect with contemporary digital environments. You will engage with the topical issues facing us today as a result of technological evolution, from changes to work life balance, to migration and the social challenges posed by an increasingly unstable climate.

As you cultivate an increased awareness of social inequalities, you will grapple with a range of significant sociological issues such as class, gender, migration, family, belief, and belonging. You are encouraged to adopt an analytical approach, evaluate theories and explanations, and construct fair arguments grounded in both data and your own critical thinking. Being able to interrogate contemporary social landscapes and appreciate the nuances of different perspectives will enable you to apply these skills beyond university.
