Program Overview

Philosophy and Politics at Keele poses important questions about right and wrong, human life and the nature of reality as well as looking into the role of power, leadership and policies within society.

In Philosophy you will study texts, think about ideas and formulate your own philosophical theories. You will explore central themes such as moral and political philosophy, logic, epistemology, and the philosophies of mind, religion and science and will consider key philosophical problems about the nature of the world, the mind and various solutions proposed.

You’ll learn about different philosophical traditions past and present, including Anglo-American, Indian, Buddhist, Greek, French and German philosophy. You’ll enhance your logical and critical thinking skills, and develop the use of sound arguments to defend your views, while detecting fallacies and other argumentative weaknesses.

Politics at Keele seeks to understand society and the events and forces which shape it, engaging with questions of power, justice, conflict, legitimacy, accountability, and governance. You will explore why citizens are increasingly disillusioned with politics; what a democracy is; when and how it’s legitimate to protest; and the effects of different models of government. You can tailor your studies to your interests, whether theoretical, historical or oriented to specific issues.

Our academics in the School of Social, Political and Global Studies are active researchers, with expertise in environmental politics, European and American politics and international relations. You can tailor your degree programme to pursue your interests and build your knowledge across a range of areas, ready to pursue a variety of routes after university.
