Program Overview

In just eight months, this program will give individuals the specialized knowledge and skills in victimology required to provide a variety of services to victims/survivors and their families.


You will focus on:

  • Various types of crimes (i.e. physical and sexual abuse, human trafficking and intimate partner violence).
  • Identifying and assessing the needs of victims and providing strategies for healing
  • Designing and delivering victim service education to professionals and members of the community
  • Relationships between victims/survivors and offenders within the criminal justice system.

As a graduate of this program, you will be able to advocate for victims of crime within the criminal justice and other systems; assess and refer victims to appropriate services; and be part of a risk assessment team for individuals, families and groups.

You will complete a field placement in victim services that enables you to work with corporate and community service agencies to gain an in-depth understanding of the opportunities available upon graduation.

  2. Advocate for victims of crime within the criminal justice and other systems.
  3. Plan, implement and evaluate interventions aimed at prevention and healing for victims of crime.
  4. Assess and refer victims of crime to appropriate services.
  5. Design and deliver victim service education to other professionals and members of the community.
  6. Collaborate with service agencies to plan, deliver and evaluate victim service programs and initiatives.
  7. Identify, analyze and apply current research and theory to victim services.
  8. Assess the personal impact of delivering victim services and employ self care strategies.
  9. Design and evaluate a training plan for personal and professional development in victim services.
