Program Overview

Increased concern regarding the protection and management of the environment has resulted in the environmental field becoming one of the future-facing industries in Canada and abroad. This graduate certificate program meets the demand for trained technologists and environmental scientists in the areas of brownfield redevelopment, environmental monitoring, regulatory compliance and enforcement. It was developed in consultation with representatives from the environmental industry. The program is reviewed and updated by a Program Advisory Committee comprised of practitioners from the consulting, manufacturing, and public sectors.For qualified college or university graduates, this program enhances existing skills and competencies. The training provided prepares graduates to act as key players in responding to today's environmental challenges. Studies focus on the application of current engineering and scientific principles to protect and manage the environment in the following areas:- environmental monitoring and investigations- environmental auditing and assessment- management and clean up of contaminated sites- environmental enforcement and regulations- solid and hazardous waste management- 40-hour HAZWOPER training- water quality- air quality monitoring and permittingGraduates will be prepared to write Ministry of Environment Operator in Training (OIT) and Water Quality Analyst (WQA) licensing exams. Classroom instruction will be complemented by environmental monitoring training in the field, visits to solid-waste and industrial facilities, health and safety training, and visits to sites undergoing environmental investigations or clean up. The 40-hour HAZWOPER training course is offered as part of the program curriculum. During the completion of a term project, students are provided with mentoring advice from practicing environmental engineers, technologists, and scientists. The optional co-op stream includes one co-op work term.

Academic Requirement

  • Minimum Level of Education Required: To admitted into this program student must have Undergraduate university degree in engineering (civil, chemical, geological, environmental), earth sciences, general science, environmental science, chemistry, microbiology or biology, environmental studies, or planning OR a three-year diploma from an Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology (CAAT) in civil, environmental, chemical, or architectural/construction engineering technology
  • Applicants will be ranked based on an assessment of academic performance (grades), length and discipline of degree/diploma. Preference may be given to applicants who have successfully completed a chemistry course at the post-secondary level.

Scholarships

International Student Scholarships

General eligibility criteria:

Students are eligible to receive one scholarship from these two categories:

  • Entrance scholarships
  • Regional scholarships

Entrance and regional scholarships are open to new students only (excluding 2nd Program Scholarship and English for Academic Studies to Post-Secondary Studies Scholarship)
Applicants will be ranked based on previous highest academic performance
Applicants must be full-time students
Please note: To be eligible for a scholarship, you must pay your deposit and fees in full by the due dates specified in your letter of acceptance.

Entrance Excellence Scholarship

$1,500 scholarships awarded each intake to students at the highest level of academic performance. Applicants will be ranked based on past academic performance (highest academic average) and awards will be distributed across all countries of origin.

English for Academic Studies to Post-Secondary Studies Scholarship

$1,500 scholarships awarded each intake. Eligible applicants will be ranked on highest academic average in Level 4 of Conestoga’s English for Academic Studies program. Following the completion of the EAS program, students must be entering a degree, diploma or graduate certificate at Conestoga College and must be eligible to proceed.

2nd Program Scholarship

$1,500 scholarship awarded to students who have previously graduated from a Conestoga diploma, degree or graduate certificate program (excludes certificate (C) programs) and who apply to a second program within four months of completion. Students will be ranked on the highest academic average (GPA) from the previous program of study.


Regional - Degree Entrance Scholarship

$3,000 awarded to students beginning studies in the Fall, Winter or Spring terms. Applicants will be ranked based on past academic performance (highest academic average) and awards will be distributed across all countries of origin.

Regional - Diploma Entrance Scholarship

$1,500 awarded to students beginning studies in the Fall, Winter or Spring terms. Applicants will be ranked based on past academic performance (highest academic average) and awards will be distributed across all countries of origin.

Regional – Graduate Program Entrance Scholarship

$1,500 awarded to students beginning studies in the Fall, Winter or Spring terms. Applicants will be ranked based on past academic performance (highest academic average) and awards will be distributed across all countries of origin.
