Program Overview

Nanoscience is concerned with the study of matter at a scale on the order of 10 to thousands of atoms. At Carleton, you will examine nanoscience through the disciplines of physical chemistry and electrical engineering to understand the physical, chemical and electronic characteristics of matter in this size regime. The combination of these two areas of study will equip you to fully understand nanoscience in photonic, electronic, energy and communication technologies.

The focus of the program will be on materials—their use in electronic devices, their scalability and the control of their properties. Further required courses in mathematics, physics and statistics will round out the program, and advanced courses in bionanoscience and nanoelectronics are available.

In the Nanoscience program, you will examine nanoscience through the disciplines of physical chemistry and electrical engineering to understand the physical, chemical and electronic characteristics of matter at a scale on the order of 10 to thousands of atoms.Studies in physical chemistry and electrical engineering will equip you with the knowledge to fully understand nanoscience in photonic, electronic, energy and communication technologies.
As a Nanoscience student, you will also take courses in mathematics, physics and statistics and have the opportunity to take advanced courses in bionanoscience and nanoelectronics.

Scholarships

Carleton University has one of the most generous scholarship and bursary programs in Canada. Last year, more than 15,000 scholarships and bursaries totaling over $31.9 million were awarded to undergraduate students.

Entrance Scholarships

If you have been admitted to Carleton with an admission average of 80 percent or better and meet language requirements, you will automatically be considered for a renewable entrance scholarship. The admission average we use is calculated from the marks submitted by your high school in support of your application. Entrance scholarships are offered for fall entry only. You may be offered a renewable entrance scholarship provided you are entering Carleton for the first time and have no previous attendance at post secondary educational institutions. If eligible when admitted to Carleton, the scholarship value will be determined by your admissions average as calculated at the time of admission. Entrance scholarship offers are not assessed or reassessed on final high school grades.

If you are an excellent student transferring from another Canadian university or college program to a full-time undergraduate program at Carleton, you may be eligible for one of our scholarships for transfer students.
