Foundation Studies Program Standard

Our Foundation Studies Program provides you with a pathway to follow your dreams of studying business, IT, engineering, medicine, nursing and much more at university. Students commencing at the College in 2025 will have guaranteed entry into the new Adelaide University upon successful completion of the the Foundation Studies Program.
 

Program Benefits

  • For students studying at the College, once you achieve your required progression score, you are guaranteed entry to your packaged degree, and, for most bachelor’s degrees, you won’t need to provide any further English language evidence.
  • We will ensure that you understand all the additional entry requirements for Medicine, Dentistry, Midwifery, Nursing, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy.
  • The program is streamed, allowing you to choose subjects to suit your bachelor degree choice.
  • You will be issued with a packaged Confirmation of Enrolment for the entire duration of study at the College and the University.
  • In addition to weekly class attendance, students are also expected to complete 20-25 hours per week of independent learning.

You’ll graduate with the analytical methods, laboratory and field techniques, and information technology skills needed to apply scientific research into real-world contexts. Coupled with your insatiable curiosity, you’ll have the insight and expertise required to contribute to local and global challenges across a range of industries.


Major: Environmental and Geospatial Science

Every decision we make impacts our environment, economy and wellbeing. Our Bachelor of Science majoring in Environmental and Geospatial Science will set you up to inform major decision-making using real data. It is hands-on and tech-driven, with a strong focus on cultural awareness. You’ll learn to create interactive maps, analyse environmental data, and use geospatial technologies like drones and GPS navigators.

Classes extend beyond textbooks into real-world labs and field trips. Explore our planet’s life and weather systems. Master cartography. Participate in sustainability projects. Examine the laws shaping our future.

With skills in mapping, surveying, data analysis and conservation, you’ll be highly sought after in growing areas like agriculture, environmental consulting, urban planning and resource management.


What you'll learn

This degree is all about how environments form and change over time. How do the living and non-living parts of our world interact? What tools and techniques help protect them? How can we chart changing landscapes?

There is so much to discover. Take foundational courses in environmental chemistry, geochemistry, biology and ecology. Develop technical skills in cartography, earth observation and Geographic Information Systems. Interpret and construct maps that are both interactive and accessible.

Hands-on experiences are central to the degree. You will:

  • Collect and analyse soil, water and vegetation
  • Apply marine and wildlife conservation research
  • Learn the science and applications of remote sensing
  • Store, manage and communicate data
  • Study land management strategies including Aboriginal burning techniques
  • Critically assess environmental legislation
  • Unpack climate change and its socio-economic impacts.

You’ll experience a mix of online and face-to-face learning, including lectures, tutorials, workshops and practicals. You’ll get familiar with state-of-the-art geospatial tools, gather data on field trips, and network with guest experts. In your final year, you’ll undertake an 80-hour industry placement or project.

    Scholarships

    The University of Adelaide College International Scholarship rewards the international graduates of the University of Adelaide College.

     

    This scholarship is:

    • Available for graduates of the University of Adelaide College commencing at the University of Adelaide.
    • Open to citizens of any country (except Australia and New Zealand); and
    • Provides a waiver of 10% of the annual tuition fee for each year of the program for the full duration of the degree.

     

    Value
    The scholarship offers a 10% tuition fee reduction for the minimum standard full-time duration of the scholar's chosen undergraduate or postgraduate degree.

     

    Eligibility
    To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

    • Be a graduate of the University of Adelaide College;
    • Have a University of Adelaide offer of admission (full offer or conditional offer) as a full-fee-paying international student;
    • Enrol in a full time study load for each study period of the degree;
    • Complete the acceptance process as outlined in your offer of admission.

    Note: Scholarship applicants who are eligible for more than one scholarship offered by the University of Adelaide will only be entitled to receive one scholarship (the highest value scholarship award for which they are eligible).

     

    Exclusions
    The following applicants are not eligible to receive these scholarships:

    • Current University of Adelaide students who are transferring from one degree to another prior to successful completion of their program of study (internal transfers)
    • Students who are recipients of a scholarship covering tuition fees awarded by a recognised scholarship awarding body such as a government ministry or department
    • Applicants for Masters by Research or Phd programs;
