Program Overview

Foundation Program

Designed specifically for international students, the UWA Foundation program will help students improve their subject knowledge and English language skills. Students can progress to Year 1 of any undergraduate degree at The University of Western Australia (UWA) upon successful completion to the required level.

Leading to: Bachelor of Philosophy, Politics and Economics / Bachelor of Commerce

In a competitive employment market, you will maximise your career options by developing interdisciplinary grounding across the three disciplines of Philosophy, Politics and Economics. Combining this with the Arts will equip you to think holistically, developing an enhanced awareness of relationships – with oneself, others and the world. You will graduate with two qualifications, having cut two years off the time it takes you to study two degrees. If you decide either degree isn't right for you, you can exit one and complete the other.

Bachelor of Philosophy, Politics and Economics

All important social issues—climate change, health care, inequality, political participation, criminal justice and much more besides—have philosophical, political and economic dimensions. UWA's Bachelor of Philosophy, Politics and Economics is a challenging and rigorous course of study which equips students to engage with these issues from a uniquely interdisciplinary perspective.

Bachelor of Commerce

Real-world experiences are at the heart of the Bachelor of Commerce. This degree develops your analytical, communication and problem-solving skills, providing you with a global perspective on business and preparing you to pursue a career within the business, government or not-for-profit sectors. Learn from leading academics, develop high-level industry networks and graduate with a degree that can take you anywhere in the world.

Major: Philosophy, Politics and Economics

Very many important issues – climate change, healthcare, political participation, taxation and much more besides – have philosophical, political, and economic dimensions. UWA's Philosophy, Politics and Economics extended major is a challenging and rigorous programme which equips students to engage with such issues from an interdisciplinary perspective. Students receive a thorough grounding in each of the three disciplines, and will examine the ways in which insights from each area of study can fruitfully inform scholarship in the others. Students will also study the intertwined history of philosophy, politics, and economics, and develop invaluable critical thinking and analytical skills essential for success in the modern workplace. This page is for students in the Bachelor of Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. Students who commenced the Bachelor of Arts prior to 2021 should refer to the Handbook for the original Philosophy, Politics and Economics Major.
