The University of Law - Nottingham Campus
Nottingham, England, UK
The University of Law - Nottingham Campus University Overview
We are one of the UK's longest-established specialist providers of legal education. Our origins can be traced back to 1876 with the formation of the leading tutorial firm Gibson & Weldon, and later on, with the establishment of The Law Society School of Law. In 1962 the two were amalgamated to establish The College of Law, and in 2012 we were granted our full university title. In 2016 we launched our Business School which has since seen expansion across our campuses and partnerships with leading international institutions such as GISMA Business School in Berlin.
We made history in 2006 by becoming the first independent institution to be granted degree awarding powers by the Privy Council, leading to the development of our professionally-focused Bachelor and Master of Laws degree programmes.
In 2018, we announced our new Hong Kong campus which allows our students to learn in the heart of a leading international commerce and finance hub. Our first classes in Hong Kong took place in September 2019.
We’re now at the heart of education as an acknowledged leader in innovative, professional legal and business teaching for prospective lawyers and business professionals, both in the UK and worldwide.
With a rich heritage and a reputation for leading contemporary teaching practices, we continuously focus on developing the best legal minds and business leaders.
Nottingham Campus:
Our Nottingham campus has brand new, modern teaching facilities and innovative student spaces - it even has a retro gaming arcade. All this within walking distance of numerous restaurants, theatres, pubs and entertainment venues. Nottingham’s award-winning public transport system gives easy access to and from our campus, which is ideally situated in the city’s business district adjacent to Nottingham Castle and close to many top law firms and businesses.
You will have many opportunities to get involved in a rich sporting and social life at our Nottingham campus and will even have the option to start a society yourself. Our dedicated employability team will help you to gain work experience and pro bono opportunities to help boost your career prospects.
Our dedicated on-site employability team are here to guide you through your time with us; from understanding and deciding which steps to take, to supporting you with developing your CV and applications, and preparing you for interviews. Local firms visit regularly to give insight talks, explaining their practice areas and recruitment cycles. Our Employability and Pro Bono teams work together to help find you work experience and improve your career prospects.
We have reserved accommodation for undergraduate students in Nottingham called The Glasshouse, which has easily accessible transport links and a supermarket and shopping centre right on its doorstep.
At Nottingham, our tutors and staff are dedicated to helping you achieve your education and career ambitions. If you’re studying law with us, you will be able to benefit from our tutors’ experience as over 90% of them are qualified lawyers.

All of our campuses are close to thriving commercial areas and offer fully-resourced facilities, including well equipped IT suites, comprehensive libraries with the texts, e-books and e-journals in law, business and legal skills, as well as the latest legal texts. We also have quiet study areas, collaborative workspaces and places to relax whilst you’re on campus. In addition, our students have access to our online learning resource ELITE. Our campuses aim to recreate the professional, modern environments of top law firms and businesses. We even have a mock courtroom and crime scene at our London Bloomsbury campus which provides that extra touch of realism for our students. They all benefit from great transport links, making them ideal for both full-time and part-time undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as for qualified lawyers attending our professional training courses.
Tutors:
Our tutors are qualified solicitors, barristers, judges or business professionals and all have extensive practical experience. There are over 200 highly qualified tutors working across our locations, on our business and law undergraduate, postgraduate and masters courses.
