Global University Systems (GUS) - The University of Law - Chester Campus Overview

We are one of the UK's longest-established specialist providers of legal education. Our origins can be traced back to 1876 with the formation of the leading tutorial firm Gibson & Weldon, and later on, with the establishment of The Law Society School of Law. In 1962 the two were amalgamated to establish The College of Law, and in 2012 we were granted our full university title. In 2016 we launched our Business School which has since seen expansion across our campuses and partnerships with leading international institutions such as GISMA Business School in Berlin.

We made history in 2006 by becoming the first independent institution to be granted degree awarding powers by the Privy Council, leading to the development of our professionally-focused Bachelor and Master of Laws degree programmes.

In 2018, we announced our new Hong Kong campus which allows our students to learn in the heart of a leading international commerce and finance hub. Our first classes in Hong Kong took place in September 2019.

We’re now at the heart of education as an acknowledged leader in innovative, professional legal and business teaching for prospective lawyers and business professionals, both in the UK and worldwide.

With a rich heritage and a reputation for leading contemporary teaching practices, we continuously focus on developing the best legal minds and business leaders.

Chester campus

Studying at our Chester campus provides you with the perfect combination of a historic city with modern amenities, and the campus is just 10 minutes from Chester’s city centre. The cobble stone streets of this Roman-walled city are home to a range of great restaurants, bars and pubs to keep you entertained day or night. The campus will remain on its current site in Christleton until the summer of 2021 when it will relocate to new premises.

Our library at Chester gives you access to software that makes it easier for you to find the legal journals, cases and articles you’ll need during your studies. All workshop rooms are designed to encourage classroom discussions and debates, using technology to allow interactive, engaging sessions to be delivered across all our courses.

As a student at this campus, you will have Associate Student status at The University of Chester’s Student’s Union, meaning you can use their facilities and join in with their societies. With an outdoor seating area, orchard and on-site cafe, there’s plenty of space to socialise with friends or prepare for your next lecture on our campus.

Our dedicated employability team, based both locally and nationally, can help you to obtain work experience and pro bono opportunities to help you boost your CV.

At Chester, our tutors and staff are dedicated to helping you achieve your education and career ambitions. If you’re studying law with us, you will be able to benefit from our tutors’ experience as over 90% of them are qualified lawyers.
