Auckland Institute of Studies - St Helens Campus Overview

Established in 1990, Auckland Institute of Studies (AIS) is one of New Zealand’s leading private degree-granting institutions.

We provide a wide range of NZQA-approved qualifications, including certificate, diploma, undergraduate degree, graduate diploma, and postgraduate diploma and degree programmes for domestic and international students. AIS offers a variety of courses in business, tourism management, hospitality management, information technology and business administration. Our fast-growing MBA programme is one of the largest in New Zealand, and our English Language Centre offers qualifications in EFL, EAP, IELTS Preparation and Business English.

We are located in Mount Albert in Central Auckland and operate from two attractive campuses. Our St Helens campus is situated in a park-like setting next to Chamberlain Park Golf Course, and was once the St Helens Auckland Maternity Hospital. Our Asquith campus is located a five minute walk away, close to St Lukes shopping centre and with excellent transport links to the city and the central and western suburbs.

The AIS flexible three-semester system and cross-credit recognition allows students to fast-track their studies and to get a head start on their careers. We provide assistance to students on employment issues during and after their studies – this includes assistance with CV preparation and interview skills, job placement and internships. Our Online Visa Office allows international students to process visas on campus.

We ensure that a friendly, nurturing environment balances and supports our rigorous and demanding academic programmes. Students at AIS experience expert personalised education in small classes – our experienced and approachable teaching faculty value personal contact with students.

St Helens Campus

The St Helens Campus is located in spacious, park-like grounds in Mt Albert, Auckland, and is adjacent to the popular Chamberlain Park Golf Course.

The campus name pays homage to the property’s previous incarnation as St Helen’s Hospital, part of a group of seven state-owned maternity hospitals built around New Zealand in the early 1900’s by New Zealand’s Prime Minister from 1883 - 1906, The Rt Hon Richard J Seddon.  Known as “King Dick” for his leadership style, the hospitals were named after the borough of St Helens in Lancashire, England, where he was born.  Auckland’s original St Helens Hospital opened on Pitt St in 1906, then at the current location in Mt Albert where it operated from 1968-1990.

Travelling to and from the campus is easy as it is located close to Auckland’s North Western motorway and the Baldwin Avenue train station, and bus services travelling along nearby New North and Great North Roads are frequent.
