Program Overview

Mississippi State University’s Bachelor of Business Administration in Supply Chain Logistics major will equip students with the foundational knowledge and skills needed in logistics and supply chain-related roles and careers. This major is the only dedicated bachelor's degree program in supply chain or logistics in the State of Mississippi. The U.S. has one of the most developed logistics infrastructures in the world, giving consumers and businesses access to an enormous variety of goods and services. Supply chain and logistics professionals use this infrastructure to serve customers quickly and efficiently, taking charge of decisions affecting the transporting, warehousing, and order processing of raw materials, purchased parts, and finished goods that are needed in our society.

The program builds upon the general business knowledge taught as part of the business core to provide students with functional knowledge and expertise in logistics & transportation, procurement, and operations. In addition to the introductory level supply chain course included in the College Core, students majoring in Supply Chain Logistics will be required to take three additional courses (9 hours) to develop knowledge of fundamental supply chain functions:

  • Logistics and Transportation
  • Procurement
  • Operations

Students in the Supply Chain Logistics Major must also complete an international elective course and three supply chain-related elective courses. These electives will allow students to gain added depth in supply chain-related areas including distribution management, forecasting, predictive analytics, consumer behavior, personal selling, the law of commercial transactions, retailing, and more.

Even before the pandemic, many students recognized career opportunities in supply chain and logistics with the high-profile successes of corporations like Wal-Mart, Amazon, United Parcel Service, and Federal Express. The focus on supply chain and logistics became even more pronounced in the environment of a pandemic and how consumers acquire goods.
