Program Overview

Preparing for medical school is a rigorous process, and the Illinois College pre-med program can provide you with the resources and skills needed to be successful in this highly competitive field.

Highlights

  • Our comprehensive pre-med program covers the many admission factors that go into acceptance into medical school, including high grade point average, above-average MCAT scores, the development of personal qualities, leadership, clinical experience, letters of recommendation, interviews and research experience.
  • You will work closely with faculty advisors to select a challenging major in any field and learn about medical schools interested in admitting students with diverse liberal arts backgrounds and life experiences.
  • You will consult with the health professions advisor to schedule your courses and attend pre-medical admissions meetings.
  • You will gain an understanding of the application for admission to medical schools, which is submitted through the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) or American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine Application Service (AACOMAS). Faculty experts will advise and guide you through the lengthy process.
  • You will be strongly encouraged to “shadow” a physician in your hometown or in the Jacksonville area.
  • The Illinois College Medical School Preparation Program prepares students for medical school by staging mock interviews, making connections to our network of alumni currently practicing medicine, and guidance through the application process.
  • A limited number of students participate in an intensive 10-week MCAT preparation program during the summer.
  • Discover multiple opportunities to be engaged in the community through activities which develop and demonstrate your leadership abilities and interest in service. You will also be connected to opportunities for volunteer or paid medically-related clinical or research work.
