Program Overview

The film and animation degree prepares you to produce, creatively and practically, your own independent work and/or fulfill professional production responsibilities in any medium suitable to your interests and abilities.

Through lectures and laboratories, you will develop individual skills in moving-image communications and learn the aesthetic principles governing art. Technology and technique are taught as a means to achieve a creative goal.

Animation option : This animation BFA on 2D, 3D, and stop motion animation spanning from conception to application to final production of short films.While Animation students focus on a particular technique, they are encouraged to explore all methods and approaches. The program builds up from foundation drawing and design to full-fledged filmmaking.Regardless of the medium, students make films from day one, culminating in a thesis film their final year. They learn and create through the entire process, from story, design, and animation to post-production and distribution. They will draw, paint, rig, model, texture, light, build, and animate past the edges of their creativity while learning the art and craft of visual storytelling.

    RIT Graduate Scholarships are awarded by academic programs in recognition of students’ records of academic excellence. The amount of the award varies by student and department. Scholarships do not include a stipend. These awards carry with them the expectation that students will maintain a minimum academic standard (3.0 cumulative grade point average) and make satisfactory progress toward their degrees.
