International Foundation Year in Business, Media and Social Sciences
The International Foundation Year in Business, Media and Social Sciences is your route to a range of undergraduate degrees at the University of Sussex. It is a university preparation course that will give you the English language level, academic knowledge, and study skills you need to succeed in your degree. It is an excellent choice for students who would like a little more support with their studies, or who do not meet the entry requirements for direct entry into a degree programme.

During the International Foundation Year your learning will be structured in the same way as University teaching. This ensures you receive excellent preparation for undergraduate study.

You will study a range of different modules throughout the programme, based on the pathway that you choose. You can choose one of the following pathways:

  • Business, Accounting and Economics
  • Social Sciences with Maths
  • Social Sciences and Law
  • Film and Media
  • Finance and Technology (FinTech)

Leading to: Media and Communications BA (Hons)

How do the media shape the social, cultural and political landscape? If you’d like to find out, this course is for you. Supported by our experts, you’ll explore the role the media play in reflecting – and moulding – the world around us.

This BA combines theory and practice. In the classroom, you’re taught critical and historical studies of media. Using our professional facilities, you’ll have the opportunity to create your own audio, visual and digital content. You’ll enjoy 24/7 access to a newsroom, various editing suites and a professional sound studio.

During your studies, you’ll:

  • Develop study skills including time management, note taking and essay writing
  • Learn to be a critical thinker
  • Gain hands-on experience.

The combination of study and practical work gives you the skills needed for a career in the world of media. And where better to do all this than in Brighton, one of the country’s fastest growing hubs for all things digital and media related? Our graduates have gone on to roles in journalism, advertising, publishing, press and public relations, and education.
