First Year in Science (Two- Semester) Leading to Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Psychology Navitas Group - International College Portsmouth (ICP) at University of Portsmouth, UK

A Pathway in Science is designed to develop strong foundations in design, critical thinking, and research.

In the First Year Pathway students complete the International College Portsmouth (ICP) at University of Portsmouth first year of the degree, undertaking the same modules, in the same classes as students entering the University directly. Alongside the International College Portsmouth (ICP) at University of Portsmouth modules, students entering through the First Year Pathway will have additional support and tuition from International College Portsmouth (ICP) at University of Portsmouth.

First Year

A First Year pathway is available for students who:

• Don’t meet the entry requirements to enter university level study directly (but hold equivalent to AS/A level studies)
• Feel that additional support at the start of university studies will help them stand a better chance of success
• Have been away from studies for a period of time
• Come from a different academic environment to that of the UK

Progressing from First Year

At International College Portsmouth (ICP) at University of Portsmouth we offer a first year or stage 2 level study. Either students will enter this pathway following completion of the foundation, or for students that have completed equivalent of A level study we also have an entry point at first year of a bachelor’s degree.

Upon completion of the first year, or Stage 2, you will seamlessly progress to the second year of your chosen degree with the University, and no longer be registered with International College Portsmouth (ICP) at University of Portsmouth.

Psychology

Are you interested in studying the mind and behaviour? This BSc (Hons) Psychology degree course gives you a deeper understanding of how our minds work and how to apply this knowledge to practical scenarios.

It gives you a broad introduction to psychological theory and research techniques, and opens many career opportunities – from health and social care to teaching, marketing and management.

• Use specialist psychology equipment and facilities, including an observation suite, toddler and infant laboratory, psychophysiology laboratory, psychology of applied cognition laboratory, and digital analysis and video editing suite
• Specialise your field of study in your final year, with options including sport psychology, neuroscience, educational psychology, and clinical and health psychology amongst others
• Learn soft skills that employers value including in teamwork, communication, problem solving, self-motivation and time management
• Use our motion capture studios, which feature the latest Vicon optical system, to explore the mechanics and perception of human movement, looking at how body language influences our appraisal of others and affects interpersonal interactions
