Program Overview

The Anatomy, Developmental & Human Biology BSc degree course offers you an opportunity to explore how our body is constructed. You will learn how our anatomy has emerged through an analysis of evolution, structure, function, and development. In doing so, you will consider anatomy at whole body, body system, organ, tissue, cellular and molecular levels.

Studying a Biomedical Science degree with us means that you will be able to enjoy the flexibility to choose your degree after your first year with our Common Year One curriculum. All Biomedical Science disciplines are covered in the first year.

Key benefits

  • Europe's largest centre for medical and professional healthcare education
  • Teaching by internationally renowned scientists and researchers
  • One of the UK's best graduate employment rates
  • Career opportunities through international exchanges
  • Options to study abroad

We are one of the few universities to offer an Anatomy, Developmental & Human Biology BSc. Our course provides an opportunity for you to explore the anatomy of the body and to integrate this understanding with cutting-edge research in embryology, evolution and cell and molecular biology. You will learn how these rapidly advancing and interlinked fields of scientific investigation are helping us to better understand human structure and function.

This course forms part of the suite of ‘Common Year 1’ courses within the School of Bioscience Education. These comprise: Anatomy, Developmental & Human Biology; Biochemistry; Biomedical Science; Medical Physiology; Molecular Genetics; Neuroscience; and Pharmacology. Once you have successfully completed year one, you can then progress through to years 2 and 3 where you can tailor your course of study to focus on those areas that interest you most. If you wish, you can also choose to switch to another course within the School of Bioscience Education.

You may also choose to apply to undertake a full year abroad at one of our partner institutions between the second and third years. This will change your programme from a three year programme, to a four year programme.

In your final year you will have the opportunity to conduct advanced experimental laboratory work in areas such as developmental biology, cell biology, stem cell biology or reproductive neuroendocrinology.
