Program Overview

Studying history at the University of Gloucestershire is centred on understanding the making of the modern world by analysing the past. Taught by subject specialists in British, European, American and Russian history, you’ll explore some of the fundamental issues, events and ideas that have shaped the past since the 15th century.

Our degree is particularly focused on how the past can be understood through lenses of race, class, and gender, and how historical interpretations are expressed through contemporary popular culture and memory.

As well as study, you’ll also ‘do’ history and develop key skills that will prepare you for life after graduation. Through our unique student-centred teaching you’ll study these subjects in smaller seminar groups.

You’ll work closely with subject experts in interactive sessions that involve discussions, debates, and hands-on workshops – allows you to make the most of class time while developing key critical skills and confidence.

    Scholarships

    The University of Gloucestershire Academic Merit Scholarship is a grades-based award, designed to reward academic merit.

    We hope to encourage those who receive the award to maintain a high level of academic achievement. Each scholarship is worth up to £1200, in the form of £400 annually for up to three academic years.

    To be eligible for this new scholarship, students will need to achieve a certain standard in their Level 3 results (128 tariff points or more from at least three full A-levels or equivalent on enrolment), then continue to do well in each year of study.
