Get expert industry training in facial treatments, manicure, pedicure, gel application, hair removal, makeup, and body massage while serving real clients at VCC's state-of-the-art salon and spa.
What you will learn
Upon successful completion of the Esthetics & Spa Therapy Certificate Program students will be able to:
- Practice skin and body therapies in accordance with safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards and regulations.
- Describe human anatomy, physiology and chemical composition specific to concerns relating to nail, skin, body, and hair removal treatments.
- Perform spa treatments based on client consultation, skin analysis and nutritional needs.
- Apply the principles of colour and design to lash, brow and specialized makeup techniques.
- Perform in an ethical and professional manner conducive to spa environments.
- Apply retail business administration practices and marketing techniques for operating a spa.
What to expect
- The Esthetics & Spa Therapy Certificate Program provides a wide range of student learning opportunities in the classroom, spa and workplace settings. Students will gain hands-on practical experience working with clients in the VCC Salon and Spa. Industry work experience provides students with additional opportunities to apply their knowledge and technical skills in a workplace setting. Classroom instruction is designed for students to develop theoretical knowledge and practical skills which will be applied for success in the VCC Salon and Spa.
- Participation is integral to the development of practical skills in this program; therefore, students assume the role of client, therapist and spa coordinator.
- Work practicum offers students spa industry work experience, opportunities to practice knowledge and skills learned at the college and potential for employment.

Scholarships
UMAP-Canada Scholarship Program 2024-25
Details and Eligibility
With the generous support of Global Affairs Canada, the UMAP International Secretariat, currently hosted at Vancouver Community College, is providing funding for study abroad programs (physical and virtual) within the UMAP consortium.
The UMAP-Canada scholarships are available to Canadian citizen students of Canadian UMAP member institutions to study at UMAP member institutions in other countries AND for foreign nationals from a UMAP member institution to study at UMAP Canada member institutions on an approved UMAP program (physical or virtual) starting between April 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025.
Eligible Programs or study abroad terms must be registered in the UMAP Student Connection Online (USCO) system or pre-approved for consideration by UMAP IS.
Award Value
The scholarship value is based on the type and length of the program.
Physical mobility
- Four-month program / one academic term: $10,200 CAD
- Five- to seven-month program: $12,700 CAD
- Eight-month program / two academic terms: $14,700 CAD
- Short-term programs (7-30 days): $3,500 CAD
Virtual Mobility
- All programs: longer than one week (7 days) to a maximum of one semester (3-4 months), pro-rated for program type and length, up to CAD $1,000 per month
