Program Overview

If you flip on your TV or radio at any given time, you’re likely to see or hear a graduate from this program working across North America. NAIT offers two distinct yet interconnected full-time diploma programs that provide you with the skills and experience needed to succeed in the ever-evolving media landscape. You will gain valuable experience by working as part of NAIT’s campus radio station (NR92) and television newsroom (NAIT NewsWatch) in modern studios and using industry standard digital equipment and labs.

In the Radio program, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of radio production, promotions, advertising and on-air performance. You will learn how to create engaging content for various audiences, develop marketing and promotional strategies to attract listeners, and master the technical aspects of audio production and editing. The program also focuses on the intricacies of on-air performance, including voice training, presentation skills and audience engagement techniques.

Graduates of the Radio program are well-prepared for roles in broadcasting, promotions, audio production and content creation. Typical roles include producer, music programmer, announcer and copywriter. By learning from highly qualified professionals with years of industry experience, you will be prepared to excel in the dynamic world of radio.

Program Schedule

In both the Radio and Television two-year diploma programs, the academic year consists of two 15-week semesters.

In year one, you'll take a common first semester with classmates from both the Radio and Television programs. You'll be exposed to a wide scope of communication skills and topics specific to the broadcast and production industries. In the second semester, you'll move into radio-focused courses and work on projects in classrooms and labs.

In term three, you'll concentrate on advancing your technical skills by working on our NR92 radio broadcast. This hands-on training will come in handy for your final term, which will consist of a 15-week work placement. Here you'll apply what you learned, gain direct industry experience and begin networking for entry into your career. You may be placed at a radio or television station, production studio or in one of a multitude of freelance situations.
