With emphasis on engineering fundamentals combined with high-tech equipment and analysis techniques, the Mechanical Engineering Technology program will provide you with the flexibility and portability of skills required to become a mechanical engineering technologist and find work in industries such as oil and gas, agriculture and pulp and paper.

Hands-on, industry-relevant skills

Design concepts, process planning and analysis techniques will be studied and you will receive sound supporting theory from courses such as Dynamics, Design of Machine Elements, Drafting and CAD, and Plant Engineering.

Some of the skills you will acquire include:

  • Design of mechanical components, assemblies and systems
  • Specifications for machining operations/production methods and tooling for the manufacture of metal parts
  • Cost estimating for fabrication, pressure vessels, construction, manufacturing, piping systems and projects
  • Selection and evaluation of machinery
  • Layout design for office, warehouse and plant
  • Production activity evaluation
  • Methods analysis techniques using quality-management and quality-control tools
