Master’s Qualifying Pathway (MQP) Pathway

This pathway offers the opportunity to complete required prerequisites, build confidence in preparation for a graduate academic workload, and upgrade English language proficiency, if needed.

In the Master’s Qualifying Pathway (MQP), you will complete one term of study at Western International College (WesternIC). Upon successfully meeting all progression requirements, you will complete the remaining three terms of your Master of Data Analytics (MDA) program within Western’s Faculty of Science.


Over one term, you will complete:

  • English Boost + Quantitative Language Module (if needed)
  • Category 1 & 2 learning modules, such as:
    • Academic Literacy in Context: Business & Technical Writing
    • Collaborative Product Realization Lab
    • Communication Skills: Practical and Intercultural Application
    • Collaborative Work Environments
  • Two to three academic courses, depending on necessary prerequisites and English language level:
    • One to two undergraduate-level courses, as determined by the program
      • The following serve as examples of possible required courses*:
        • Computer Science Fundamentals II – CS 1027
        • Probability and Statistics – STAT 2857
        • Logic for Computer Science – CS 2209
        • Software Tools and Systems Programming – CS 2211
    • One to two graduate-level courses, as determined by the program, such as:
      • Statistical Modelling I- MDA9159
      • Databases I—CS9159


Progression to: Master of Data Analytics

The Master of Data Analytics (MDA) in Western’s Faculty of Science is a full-time, professional graduate program that prepares students with the technical expertise, professional skills and real-world experience needed to succeed in today’s data-driven workforce.

Academic Requirement

Minimum Level of Education Required: Admission to the Master of Data Analytics (MDA) program requires the successful completion of a four-year bachelor’s degree in computer science, statistics, or a related field* from a recognized university, with a minimum average of 75% (B), or the Canadian equivalent for international applicants. The admission average is calculated based on the final two years of study.


Applicants are expected to have completed significant quantitative coursework in Mathematics, Probability, Statistics, and Computer Programming, with a minimum grade of 75% (B) in these subjects.


*Applicants with degrees in related disciplines such as Actuarial Science, Financial Modelling, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, or Software Engineering may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
