Program Overview
The first of its kind in North America, the Master of Engineering in Building Envelopes and Structures (BEST) program combines state-of-the-art research and industry applications. As a graduate, you'll be equipped with the knowledge and expertise to lead in the evolving fields of sustainable construction and advanced engineering solutions.
You'll complete course work and a graduate project on building envelopes and/or structures. You'll also have the option to complete an 8-month co-op placement.
Note: This is a project-based program; there is no thesis.
Outcomes
Graduates with an MEng in Building Envelopes and Structures (BEST) will be able to:
- design advanced building envelopes with a focus on energy efficiency and climate resilience
- apply structural engineering principles to optimize the use of steel, timber and concrete materials
- analyze the performance of building systems in response to environmental conditions
- lead projects addressing climate change mitigation and sustainable construction practices
- engage with industry and communities to promote innovative, sustainable building solutions

Academic Requirement
Minimum Level of Education Required: To be accepted into this program, applicants should hold an bachelor's degree in civil/mechanical engineering, or other related areas of engineering or science (e.g., architecture, aerospace, applied mechanics, environmental, physics, etc).
Note: You may be eligible with a degree in other disciplines such as city planning, forestry/timber engineering, etc, with suitable work experience and technical/mathematical skills.
