Program Overview

Biomedical sciences?is a growing interdisciplinary field of study aimed at understanding fundamental processes of life, applied sciences and application of this knowledge to medicine, human health, and related research. Biomedical scientists integrate knowledge from numerous fields of study such as physiology, anatomy, pathophysiology and paraclinical science. Through interprofessional collaboration, biomedical scientists create, revise and implement innovative  methods of preventing disease, diagnosing health concerns, analyzing current and potential analysis tools, and treatment options for various disorders and diseases.?

The Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences program provides students with the education, knowledge, skills and hands-on experience through classroom work and through a summer field experience.

The program?plays a significant role in developing skilful graduates who,?in turn,?contribute to the development of new therapies and approaches?targeted?to enhance?human health and wellness.?Graduates of the Biomedical Sciences?program?may also choose to pursue higher and specialized education through masters?and?doctoral degrees,?as well as?medical school, dentistry or pharmacy to name a few.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the program, a graduate will:

  • Complete biomedical applications using scientific principles of biology, chemistry, physics, and biostatistics.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of biomedical science arising from fundamental, translational, and clinical research.
  • Explain the principles and limitations of experimental and epidemiological techniques used in biomedical sciences.
  • Demonstrate a set of core laboratory skills pertinent to Biomedical Sciences.
  • Acquire, process, analyze, and communicate biomedical data using appropriate mathematical and statistical techniques.
  • Disseminate biomedical information in a variety of written and oral formats, using clear and coherent arguments, to scientific and nonscientific audiences.
  • Design, carry out, and interpret research in the biomedical sciences by applying scientific method.
  • Acquire and collate information and data from various sources that are relevant to a given biomedical question and objectively interpret them to draw an informed conclusion.
  • Demonstrate professional and ethical conduct when working individually or as part of a team.
  • Demonstrate safe and effective work habits in the laboratory complying with pertinent biomedical safety, standards, legislation, and regulations.
