This one-year Web Development – Front-End Design graduate certificate program will teach you to translate concepts and ideas into visual and functional interfaces, websites, applications, and systems––both personal and professional. As a front-end developer, you'll use human-centred design to produce high-impact websites and apps that respond to the needs of clients in sectors ranging from healthcare to fintech, retail to technology, and beyond.

This exciting program sets a new standard for application development with a core focus on five pillars:

  • Accessible user interface design (“UI”)
  • Intuitive user experience design (“UX”)
  • Industry workflow and problem solving skills
  • Full-stack application architecture
  • Front-end development

With application design and development remaining critical skills in the digital economy, we designed this program to meet industry needs. Efficient and effective communication with stakeholders and audiences alike is needed in nearly every contemporary industry, from retail to marketing, and beyond.

As a graduate of this program, you'll have the theoretical and hands-on training to:

  • Develop custom front-end interactive prototypes and solutions, using the latest techniques in HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Integrate the latest libraries and frameworks to improve efficiency, while maximizing employability.
  • Master the development workflow, including testing, debugging, documentation, bundling, and deployment.
  • Put user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design principles into practice.
  • Apply knowledge from all levels of the design and development stack to create solutions that meet the requirements of a client brief.

Program Learning Outcomes
The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  • Determine and document requirements for web computing projects based on the effective application of stakeholder needs.
  • Prepare and present proposals and business plans for web applications that satisfy stakeholder requirements.
  • Design, model, implement and optimize accessible web solutions to meet client requirements and constraints, and align with standards and best practices.
  • Design, model, implement, optimize and maintain databases to support data-driven solutions for web environments.
  • Implement a development process to support consistency between development platforms and production platforms.
  • Develop the appropriate information architecture in order to satisfy a broad range of requirements and enhance the user experience.
  • Apply project management concepts to web environment projects to ensure the effective management throughout the life cycle of the project.
  • Test, troubleshoot and debug web applications to support requirements and meet Quality Assurance objectives.
  • Communicate and collaborate with team members and stakeholders to ensure effective working relationships.
  • Evaluate proposed solutions to optimize and improve web applications based on usability testing and analysis.
  • Adhere to ethical, legal and regulatory requirements and/or principles to develop and manage web applications.
  • Select and apply strategies for personal and professional development to enhance work performance.
  • Use front-end frameworks to promote patterns of design and development that conform to the latest industry standards.
  • Create interactive experiences for various types of front-end interfaces or devices, with a focus on user-facing applications.

Academic Requirement

  • Minimum Level of Education Required: To be accepted into this program, applicants must have a college Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Degree or equivalent in Computer Science/Studies, Web Programming, Interaction Design or related, or demonstrated work experience in design or computer development.

Scholarships

Scholarships for international students

Scholarships for international students at George Brown College are generally in-program awards based on students’ academic performance (and other criteria) at George Brown College after the beginning of the academic program.


Please note the following:

  • Only successful applicants will be notified
  • Successful scholarship recipients are not eligible to apply again for a second scholarship or bursary
  • All award recipients require a valid Canadian Social Insurance Number (SIN). Awards are considered part of a student’s taxable income for the year. The College will issue T4A forms to all recipients in the spring of the year following the year in which the award was issued
  • Awards are provided for returning students based on the eligibility requirements as outlined below.


George Brown College Funded Scholarships


Diploma/Degree Scholarships
Thirty-one scholarships to be awarded to eligible returning students in full-time post-secondary programs (diploma or degree) as follows:

  • Fall competition- 14 worth $5,000 and 17 worth $1,000
  • Winter competition- 6 worth $5,000 and 9 worth $1,000


Application deadlines:

  • For Fall competition: Deadline is September 30th
  • For Winter competition: Deadline is January 31st


To qualify an applicant must:

  • be an international student with a valid Study Permit
  • be registered in a full-time 2, 3 or 4-year diploma or degree program
  • have completed at least two consecutive semesters of study with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 prior to the current semester
  • have participated in activities that have made a contribution to other students, their academic department and/or the College community in general
  • has not previously been awarded a scholarship through the George Brown College International Centre


Certificate Scholarships
The award is available to eligible returning students in full-time post-secondary Certificate or Post Graduate Certificate program (2 or 3 semesters) as follows:

Scholarships of $2,000:

  • 12 awards for January competition
  • 10 awards for May competition
  • 10 awards for September competition


To Apply
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Student must be an international student
  • Student must have at least completed 1 semester
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5
  • The student must be actively involved in the Community (college and/or external)


Application deadlines:

  • For January competition: Deadline is January 31ST
  • For May competition: Deadline is May 31ST
  • For September competition: Deadline is September 30TH


Externally Funded Scholarships


Kimokran (Toronto) Scholarship

The Kimokran scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship awarded to an international student based on academic performance and community involvement. To qualify an applicant must:

  • be an international student with a valid Study Permit
  • be registered in a full-time diploma or degree program
  • have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 in at least two full semesters of consecutive study have participated in activities that have made a contribution to other students, their Department/School and/or the College community


Assist-On ScholarshipThe Assist-On scholarship is a scholarship of $1,000 that is awarded to an international student based on academic performance and community involvement. The student must be in a Degree/ Diploma/ Certificate program.

The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Student must be an international student
  • Minimum GPA of 3.3
  • The student must be actively involved in the Community (college and/or external)

 

 

 


Woori Education Scholarship

The Woori Education Scholarship is a scholarship of $2,000 that is awarded to an international student based on academic performance and community involvement. To qualify the applicant must:

  • be an international student with a valid Study Permit
  • be registered in a full-time diploma or degree program
  • have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 in at least two full semesters of consecutive study
  • have participated in activities that have made a contribution to other students, their Department/School and/or the College community
