Program Overview

The Bachelor of Construction Management program provides graduates with the knowledge, skills and abilities required for in-depth management and coordination of projects in residential, industrial, commercial, and institutional sectors of the construction industry.  


Graduates will develop a firm grounding in construction science, project planning, execution and coordination, site management and quality control skills. Graduates will have the knowledge and skills required to effectively assist in managing construction projects to completion. The program provides a strong foundation in building construction, architecture technology and engineering fundamentals and an in-depth study of business management skills. The program emphasizes critical and analytical thinking skills, the importance of interdisciplinary practice, and strong leadership.  


Graduates will be prepared to successfully gain employment as assistant project managers, junior project co-ordinators, junior estimators, and junior site co-ordinators. With additional education and/or experience, graduates may be considered for roles as project co-ordinators, project managers, and site superintendents in the construction sector. In addition, graduates of the program will have the knowledge and skills to pursue further study in Construction Management or related fields.


Program Learning Outcomes

  • Analyze architectural, engineering, and legal documentation to assess deliverables and maintain schedules for residential, industrial, commercial, and institutional construction projects.
  • Analyze cost estimates and compare actual costs to plan, budget, and monitor allocated resources for construction projects.
  • Create construction schedules that include stakeholders and the sequence of construction activities to ensure and monitor alignment with project deliverables and requirements.
  • Assess construction methods, building equipment, safety, and labour requirements to support compliance to regulatory and contract laws.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams using leadership, management, communication, and negotiation strategies to support ethical business decisions in construction projects.
  • Analyze construction methods and materials by using quality assurance mechanisms and control techniques to support the evaluation of the associated risk in a construction project.
  • Support the construction project life cycle through statistical analysis, information and digital literacy skills by researching, selecting, and integrating industry standard information technology and systems.
  • Collect evidence/data to support best practices and decision-making for socially-responsible sustainable construction.
  • Evaluate deliverables using building information modeling in consultation with the project management team to procure materials, equipment, and labour for construction projects.
  • Employ recommended negotiation strategies and historically-proven construction management models to address challenges and concerns on construction projects.
  • Create project estimates using construction principles of quantity surveying, pricing, bidding, and tendering that encompasses project material, equipment, labour, and cost requirements.

Global Entrance Scholarship

Accept your offer of admission as soon as possible and receive $2,000 as part of your Global Entrance Scholarship! 
Study in Canada at Durham College and receive up to $3,000* in an entrance scholarship when you start a new program in May 2026, September 2026 and January 2027.

How much will I receive for my entrance scholarship?

When you enrol in a new program at Durham College, you will be awarded an entrance scholarship. The scholarship value will depend on the duration of your studies. 

  • One-year program - $2,000 (when you accept your offer)
  • Two-year program - $3,000 ($2,000 when you accept your offer, $1,000 in year two) 
  • Three-year program - $3,000 ($2,000 when you accept your offer, $1,000 in year two) 
  • Bachelor program - $3,000 ($2,000 when you accept your offer, $1,000 in year two)* 

*Students applying for a Durham College Bachelor program may also be eligible for the first-year Degree Entrance Award, valued at between $500 to $3,000.

Am I eligible?

International applicants inside or outside of Canada who apply to a full-time program at Durham College and pay international fees are eligible. * Students beginning a new program after completing their first program at Durham College are eligible as well.

*This also includes international applicants who are Refugee Claimants.

How do I apply?

You automatically qualify for the global entrance scholarship if you accept your offer of admission to a full-time program at Durham College.

How much will I receive for my entrance scholarship? $2000 of the entrance scholarship will be credited directly to your student account when you accept your offer of admission. If you qualify for a larger award, the remaining scholarship will be awarded to your account in Year 2. There is no cash equivalent or alternative for this scholarship.
Terms and Conditions: Scholarship Eligibility
  • Social Insurance Number: To keep your scholarship, you must provide your Social Insurance Number (SIN) on MyDC before your second semester begins in Canada.
  • Program Transfer Policy: Students who transfer programs prior to completing their initial program of study will not receive an additional GES scholarship and will lose eligibility for the second installment of their scholarship (if applicable).
  • Enrollment Continuity Requirement: Students who take an unscheduled gap between semesters will not be eligible for the second installment of their scholarship (if applicable). 
  • Scholarship Stacking: The Global Entrance Scholarship may be combined with a Degree Entrance Award, subject to all applicable terms and conditions.
  • Non-refundable: The Global Entrance Scholarship is non-refundable. If this award results in an overpayment of fees, the excess funds will be automatically applied to the fees for the following semester.

 



Degree Entrance Scholarship

All eligible applicants to a degree program with a combined minimum, non-weighted average of 75 percent and higher will be considered to receive a first-year entrance award:

  •  75% average—$500
  •  80% average—$1,500
  •  85% average—$2,000
  •  90% average—$3,000
