Law enforcement. Probation and parole. Forensics. Corrections. Law. UToledo’s criminal justice majors in the College of Health and Human Services learn how society grapples with crime and punishment. The criminal justice bachelor’s degree program covers all aspects of criminal justice from criminal investigation to social justice. Undergraduates are well prepared for careers or further graduate study in sociology, criminology, social work, law enforcement, corrections, community service and related fields.

Highlights

  • Accelerated police academy option. UToledo offers an accelerated program for junior and senior criminal justice majors. Successful students receive Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) certification as an Ohio police officer. This significantly improves the chances of being hired by an Ohio law enforcement agency.
  • Real-world skills and research. UToledo has one of the nation’s few criminal justice programs to combine theory, research and hands-on learning.
  • Mock homicide investigation. Criminal justice majors have the opportunity to investigate mock crime scenes.
  • Criminal justice internships.  UToledo’s criminal justice program has a dedicated internship coordinator who helps juniors and seniors land internship placements. Students gain experience and earn college credit while working for agencies such as the U.S. Marshals, the Toledo Correctional Institution, victim assistance programs, police departments, sheriff's offices and others.
  • Criminal justice career fair. Meet on campus with local, regional and national law enforcement, social service and corrections organizations  and discuss career opportunities.
  • A full menu of minors to make you more marketable. Criminal justice majors at UToledo can minor in a variety of fields that complement their degrees and increase their marketability. Minor programs include accounting, business, computer science, counseling, foreign language, forensic science investigation, legal specialties, political science, psychology, sociology and more.
