Program Overview

The University of Toledo’s accredited civil engineering bachelor’s degree program has been ranked in the top 20 in the country. What our students do best is apply knowledge learned in the classroom to problems in the real world.

UToledo’s College of Engineering is one of only eight engineering colleges in the country to require co-ops for all engineering students. Our graduates are in high demand worldwide thanks to this practical design experience.

Civil engineers make people’s lives healthier, safer and more sustainable. They design, construct and maintain infrastructure, such as shelter, transportation and clean air and water facilities. Graduates with civil engineering degrees are in high demand as the country’s existing facilities age.

Highlights

  • Unique co-op experience. Build your skills, connections and resume by spending three semesters working in paid civil engineering co-op positions. The College of Engineering offers co-op opportunities across the United States and in 34 countries.
  • The University of Toledo is one of just eight colleges in the country to require co-ops for all engineering majors. Every student in the civil engineering fall class of 2015 received a job offer from their co-op employer.
  • UToledo civil engineering grads get jobs. UToledo engineering students have a more than 85% job placement rate after graduation.
  • Research opportunities with world-class faculty. Students work alongside faculty on cutting-edge research. Civil engineering majors have developed plans to get rid of potholes in Ohio roads and developed infrastructure locally and abroad. UToledo’s civil engineering faculty has received funding from many federal agencies and the Ohio Lake Erie Commission
  • Learn by doing. Students in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering study computer-aided design, learn surveying techniques and work in teams to solve complex engineering problems. Seniors complete a large, multidisciplinary civil engineering design project. This is the type of work done in a civil engineering consultant’s office.
  • Support from your peers. UToledo’s Freshman Interest Group program helps students transition from high school to college. You'll share classes with  a small group of engineering students and be mentored by an upperclassman.
