Program Overview

Museums shape knowledge in the present, and act as a resource for the future. By studying how museums function and how objects are displayed to reveal meaning, this course offers both sector-relevant knowledge and transferrable communication skills suitable for working in an exciting and increasingly complex subject area.

Why study this course with us?
In studying Museums & Heritage Practice, you will have access to a range of resources, including museum and historic house collections across Shrewsbury, Shropshire and the Welsh Marches. Links with heritage organisations and collections include independent, specialist and civic museums, English Heritage and the National Trust. Throughout Museums & Heritage Practice, we develop knowledge and skills suited to operate within the broader heritage industry and institutional contexts, whether they be museums, heritage and planning agencies, local authorities, international organisations, private enterprises or civic organisations.

This course blends theory and practice, specialist lecturers, contributions from practising museums and heritage professionals, opportunities for field research to gain ‘hands-on’ experience, and research projects with real-life outputs.
